My husband has a serious sweet tooth. The man loves candy. One year for Valentine’s Day, my oldest son and I created him a huge valentine made out of candy bars. We took a poster board and wrote a message in candy and markers. We used as much candy as we could by using the names of the candy bars in our message. The first word was “Daddy”, so we taped over the word sugar on a Sugar Daddy bar. Our message continued, “You are a LIFESAVER. We love you MOUNDS and to PIECES. You are our HERO. You are WAY cool. Thank you for being a WHOPPER GOOD Daddy. HUGS and KISSES.
For the “pieces” we taped over the word Reese’s and for “way” we taped over the word Milky. And the word “good” was from a Mr. Good Bar. So it’s not the most prettily worded valentine message, but it’s a lot of fun to make and to receive. The bars are glued onto the board in their wrappers, so they are still good to eat.
This project has so many possibilities. It doesn’t cost much either, just a few dollars for the candy. Think of all the candy words. Good and Plenty. Skor (score). Now and Later. Nutrageous. Payday (Day, Pay or Payday). Symphony. Twix. Bit-of_honey (Bit, Honey). Dove. Mr. Goodbar (Mr or Good). Whoppers. Sweet-Tarts. Spree. Almond Joy (Joy). Big Hunk. Chuckles. Lifesaver. Mounds. Hero. Milky Way (Way). Whoppers. Zero. Snickers. And I’m sure there are even more.
I didn’t use the valentine heart candies with printed messages. They are cute and easy, but I couldn’t a figure a way to stick them to the board without using glue. I wanted it to be an edible candy message.
Writing a message with candy makes a nice project for kids to do for a teacher or a parent or grandparent. You could of course make one for your kids, but it’s a lot of candy at once. Hmmm….I might try to do a smaller version, with just one or two candy bars.
