Car Troubles

I’m sure I’m not the only single mom out there that literally knows nothing when it comes to cars. My car is as old as I am; needless to say it isn’t always the most reliable thing in the world. When I found myself stuck in the middle of the highway this afternoon I couldn’t help but think this is why they make husbands! Now my ex was never very good with cars, but his dad could easily have been a mechanic if he wanted to. Whenever we had car trouble he’d rush in to the rescue and usually within a few days the problem would be fixed and we’d be on our way until the next break down.

Today I couldn’t help but think how lucky I was that my father was able to come to my rescue, but how many other single moms would have had that luxury? I always get nervous going in to get things done on my car. It’s no secret that mechanics aren’t always the most honest, especially when they are dealing with a young single mother who doesn’t know the first thing about her car. They give you a long list of everything that needs to be replaced and many go forward blindly simply because they don’t know any better. If this is the case, do what you can to learn about your car. If you have someone that can go with you use them. It doesn’t hurt to get a second or third opinion either. Don’t spend more than you have to. These cars can get awfully expensive and if you’re like most of us money is already tight. Keep up on the regular maintenance as best as you can, it will help keep the cost down, and it will keep it running longer. When you do have car troubles try to find a mechanic you trust. A good mechanic can make all the difference.
