“Touch My Body” by Mariah Carey, have you heard it on the radio? I haven’t, but after learning it recently made history I’m somewhat anxious to hear if it lives up to the hype.
“Touch My Body” just became Carey’s 18th hit single and subsequently the pop diva has now passed Elvis Presley for the most No. 1 singles on the Billboard singles chart, and is now second only to the Beatles (the group holds the record with 20).
It’s quite an accomplishment regardless of how you feel about Carey’s music or her image.
Speaking of her image, Carey was remarkably humble during a recent interview with reporters, who were covering the music milestone. The singer said it was hard for her to place herself in the company of music legends such as Elvis and the Beatles.
“I really can never put myself in the category of people who have not only revolutionized music but also changed the world,” Carey told reporters. “That’s a completely different era and time … I’m just feeling really happy and grateful.”
Carey also added that the accomplishment was extra gratifying because of what it meant for women and minorities.
Another female making a bold move in her field is actress Jennifer Aniston.
The former Mrs. Brad Pitt cut ties with her ex’s film company and is branching out on her own.
Technically, she’s launching a new film production company with her pal Kristin Hahn, but according to Variety, most of the films the pair have acquired rights to are designed as star vehicles for Aniston.
Among the former Friends’ favorites are Jane Fallon’s U.K. bestseller Getting Rid of Matthew (in which a woman tries to manipulate her married lover into reconciling with his wife) and Laura Dave’s The Divorce Party (in which a couple celebrates their 35th wedding anniversary by announcing their breakup).
Aniston and Hahn have also acquired the rights to a few true-life stories, including Counter-Clockwise (about a Harvard aging study) and The Goree Girls (about a wrongly accused woman who starts an all-female band in prison).
The duo decided to name their new company Echo. They say they were inspired to do so because they hope their projects will “echo back an idea or challenge to others.”
