Recently, my son has discovered “The Garfield Show” and wanted to watch it as his morning cartoon. It is one of the easily tolerated cartoons for adults to endure. I’ve caught myself paying attention to the show when it is on.
I don’t find it to be annoying like some of the cartoons we’ve watched have been. There is enough of a plot for adults to be entertained and yet the animation makes it appealing to toddlers. It seems to be a good option for parents to watch with their toddlers.
Since I do have a few concerns about the show, I haven’t made this one that I let my toddler watch alone.
Toddler Review
My son is hooked on this cartoon. He likes the animation and thinks many of the episodes are funny and entertaining. He watches every scene of every show with focused attention.
Parent Review
Most of the episodes are fine for my son to watch. Many focus on the adventures of Garfield and Odie. There were a couple of shows that seemed a little scary for toddlers. Here are some of my concerns:
*Garfield dreams he is being eaten by a shark. I found that to be too scary and potentially damaging for toddlers. They could have nightmares of being eaten by sharks! I don’t think it was that scary but it could have been. It’s hard to decide what is scary to a toddler unless you see their reaction and each toddler may react differently.
*Garfield encounters aliens who I found to be shown as scary – at least for toddlers. Older kids would probably not think so. They looked like animated aliens and could be perceived as scary or just funny.
*Another cat, who looks just like Garfield , shows up and says he is Garfield. After an argument with Garfield over which one is really Garfield, the second cat turns into a monster alien. I don’t think I want my son watching that type of transformation in a cartoon.
In conclusion, I think Garfield is fine with parental guidance but I wouldn’t approve all episodes for my toddler to watch.
