Catching Up with Reality Stars

There were two reality star weddings recently. The Velvet Teddy Bear, Ruben Studdard, married his girlfriend Surata Zuri McCants last Saturday at the Canterbury United Methodist Church in Birmingham, AL. More than 300 guests attended the wedding, all dressed in black and white. Ruben and his 20 groomsmen wore black tuxes while the bride wore a white and ivory Casablanca wedding gown. After the 30-minute ceremony, the newlyweds left for the reception at the Rosewood Hall at SoHo Square in Homewood.

McCants and Studdard married when McCants showed up at an Atlanta Wal-Mart CD signing in 2006. McCant volunteered to get her friend’s CD signed because she couldn’t get off work. Studdard talked to McCants for a while and ended up following her to the store’s toy department to get her phone number. Studdard will release a new album later this year, but is also set to go on the 30th anniversary tour of “Ain’t Misbehavin.”

Another reality bachelor is off the market as “The Bachelor” Andrew Firestone married Serbian model and actress Ivana Bozilovic. The pair, who also married Saturday, married at the St. Mark’s in the Valley Episcopal Church in Los Olivos. While Firestone proposed on the third season of “The Bachelor” to Jen Schefft, the couple eventually broke up.

Firestone announced his engagement to Bozilovic last October. The two told Us Weekly, “we’re so happy right now, we can hardly stand it.”

Another “The Bachelor” star may be split from his fiancée as well. Reports are that Matt Grant, the latest “Bachelor,” and his fiancée, actress Shayne Lamas (daughter of Lorenzo Lamas) have split up. The couple had been living together since the end of the show, but sources say that Grant has now moved out of Shayne’s condominium. Grant still insists that everything is fine between the two, saying, “I had to get my own life out here (in L.A.). Get my career and friends and have my own circle. That’s important in a relationship. That you are not entirely on top of someone.”

I don’t know – I am still suspicious, but then I never thought Shayne was a very good match for Matt to begin with!

I work full-time as a web developer at UTHSC and most of my other time is spent with my son (born 2004). I love everything pop culture, but also enjoy writing about green living (it has opened my eyes to many things!) and health (got to worry about that as you get older!).
