My Five Month Old Daughter

Yesterday was my daughter’s five month birthday. I spent the day in awe of how much my daughter has grown and of how much she has changed in five short months. Five months prior I spent three and a half hours in hard labor (after fifteen hours of milder contractions) and finally, after nine long months of pregnancy and eighteen and a half hours of labor, I said hello to my baby girl face to face. In these last five months we have spent lots and lots and lots and lots of time face to face. She recognizes my voice … Continue reading

What is Your Five Month Old Up To?

Today my little guy turned 5 months old. I can hardly believe it! If you had asked me two months ago if I was ever going to make it to 5 months, I probably would have said no! It seemed forever away, and now it has already come and gone. That’s the joy of motherhood. My 5 month old is so precious. This past week, he got really sick and we were worried about him. He wasn’t worried, though. He just smiled and smiled and smiled through it all. Despite all my posts about him being a very fussy baby, … Continue reading

Breaking Habits

Now that my little guy is four months old, I keep getting this nagging feeling that I have to break him of some habits. He likes to sleep in my bed for one. This is not ideal for me. I’m a very light sleeper. But, I do love the cuddle time. Today is the perfect example. He took a 30 minute nap in his crib, and then woke up. I let him fuss for a bit, and he would not settle back down. I went in, un-swaddled and re-swaddled and felt sleepy myself. So, I took him into my room … Continue reading

Our Daughter’s First Easter Part II

Our daughter spent the rest of Easter Mass asleep. However, putting her into her carseat for our trip back home was enough to stir her out of her sleep. She gave me big smiles while a buckled her in and as parishioners complimented me on her beauty and very pretty dress. Once we arrived home, we made breakfast (and ate breakfast) before our egg hunt. After her breakfast nursing session, we all went upstairs to the children’s room (where I had hidden all the eggs, candy filled and otherwise) for our egg hunt. Our daughter seemed to enjoy her brother’s … Continue reading

What is YOUR 4 Month Old Up To?

I love every stage in my baby’s life. There are precious moments in each one, but I am particularly loving my sweet little four month old right now. No, he is not sleeping through the night yet, and no, his tummy troubles have not been fixed, but he sure is sweet, and I am loving watching him grow and develop. It seems that for me, when my kids hit 4 months old, I start to really enjoy all the sweetness that comes with being a Mom. My little guy is smiling at me all the time. One lady said, “Oh, … Continue reading

Our Daughter’s First Easter Part I

My daughter’s first Easter began with a hug from her big brother followed by lots of smiles and some laughter. She is always incredibly happy in the morning and Easter day was no exception. In preparation for early Easter Mass, I nursed her on both sides and gave her a good burping before dressing her in her Easter outfit. She wore her “party dress” a dress that I found on clearance at my favorite baby boutique the day after christmas, a pair of sparkly cream and silver metallic tights, and silver ballet flats. I had her pose for a few … Continue reading

Traveling With a Three Month Old

We have taken a lot of long trips with our son beginning when he was three months old. Many of our trips were from Texas to the midwest, a fifteen hour drive. Our biggest concern was how our son would handle such a long trip at such a young age. Thinking ahead, I knew that my cluster feeder would need to nurse frequently but nursing him in the car while the car was in motion was not an option. I could not fathom having to stop every hour or so to nurse our son especially since we can normally make … Continue reading

The Elusive Nap

As I sit down to write this blog post, I’ve just finished setting up the pack n play crib next to my computer in the basement. I got my little guy to take about a 30 minute nap a little while ago, but the elusive, 2 hour nap that I’m always praying for hasn’t happened today. So, instead, he has a nice cozy place to sit and look at some toys while I try to write. Sometimes, you just have to go with it. Getting a baby to take a good nap is so hard. Especially this time around. I’ve … Continue reading

Some Personality

It was like this with both of my babies. Before their birth I tried to imagine what kind of personality they would have while trying very hard to enjoy every minute of each pregnancy (it goes fast). With my daughter I wondered if she would be like her brother. Watching my son’s and now my daughter’s personality blossom is something I anticipated and truly enjoy to see. My son’s personality is pretty clear at this “toddler” stage in his life. He is out going, happy, very interested in playing musical instruments. He does every thing with flair and animation. His … Continue reading

Water Baby

Water can be a calming force of nature. Water is the source of origin for continued life. Without water we cannot survive. Aside from the first parents, all human beings begins life’s journey through water. My daughter was no different, she spent the first nine months of her in utero life in warm life sustaining and protecting water. She knows the security of water as much as she knows security in my arms. With this understanding of the importance of water to my daughter’s life and my own pain-relieving comfort from water, I chose to birth my daughter in a … Continue reading
