Baby Sleep is Unpredictable

Last night was brutal. My little man was up every couple of hours. Screaming for no apparent reason. It was tough. But, what made it even tougher was the fact that he had just turned a corner with his sleep habits, and had started sleeping through the night for like 5 days in a row. He is 13 months old. Unfortunately, a baby’s sleep is never predictable. I remember my daughter having episodes like that too. And, she was my best sleeper. My middle child was the worst, not sleeping through the night until he was 18 months old. And, … Continue reading

One Year Came and Went

Sometimes I think the first birthday comes in the blink of an eye. Other times, I think it takes forever to get there. That’s what having a baby is all about. Time is either dragging slowly or speeding by so fast you want to cry. When my baby turned 1 last month, I felt like crying. I think it’s because he has been such a little love. So sweet. And, he is my last baby. My last baby is one. That breaks my heart. But, at the same time, it makes me so happy. I look forward to all the … Continue reading

When Your Baby Has Food Allergies

Recently, I decided to get my baby tested for food allergies. With the history that my two boys have had, I just wanted to make sure that there were no lingering issues as we moved forward with food trialing. I had been suspicious that eggs were causing a problem with my little one when I was breastfeeding. It was one of the foods I had cut out of my diet when he was having all of his tummy issues. But, none of my children have ever been diagnosed with your typical IgE food allergies. IgE stands for Immunoglobulin E which is … Continue reading

Eleven Months Old

As I contemplate the fact that my daughter is now eleven months old, I cannot help having mixed feelings about how quickly my baby girl is growing up! I feel like a made more effort with my daughter (than I was able to with my son) to cherish every stage of her infancy. Knowing from experience the second time around, I did not want to take the short lived precious moments with my infant for granted. Even with this mindset and the clear effort to enjoy my little one, I feel like her babyhood as gone by far too fast. … Continue reading

My Little Talker

My baby has become a full-fledged talker. I’m not sure when he started figuring out that he could communicate, but we love it. And, are constantly surprised by his ability to talk to us now. It is hard to get his undivided attention these days because he is so busy. But, usually, when I am changing his diaper, I can take his being confined to the changing table as a moment to talk to him and have him talk back. I have noticed that in these moments, he is really watching my mouth move and how I form the words. … Continue reading

Walking

The last thing a mother wants to think about as she looks into her infant’s eyes (most often while nursing) is that her baby will be walking soon. At least that is how I have felt from the very beginning. I want my daughter to walk when she is ready but I am not counting the days. Regardless of my feelings, the anticipation has been growing for quite literally months among close relatives. Family members have been predicting the first steps ever since she could stand. She timidly took her first steps at nine months. Everyone was sure she would … Continue reading

What is Your 11 Month Old Up To?

I am going to savor every moment of this last month. The last month before my baby officially turns into a one year old. I can’t take it. The time has gone by way too quickly. It always does. Today is his 11 month birthday and the best gift he could give me? He finally said Mama. Intentionally. You see, he has been saying “Dada” intentionally for a few months now. I have to admit that I’ve been more than a little jealous. My husband is fabulous and wonderful, and deserves the love too, but a Mom is always eager … Continue reading

Finally Crawling!

My little guy is almost 11 months old, and he just learned how to crawl this week. I actually didn’t think he would do it at all. He had become so efficient at his little army crawl that people frequently commented on how fast he was! Since we have all hardwood floors, scooting on his belly was a very efficient way to get around. He mastered the art by pushing off with one foot, while pulling himself in true army crawling fashion with one of his arms. I always looked at him though as he did this and thought about … Continue reading

Solids Not Liquids, Please!

My little guy is driving me crazy when it comes to his eating habits lately. It seems that he has a mind of his own these days, and foods he used to devour he is getting sick of, or bored with, and just doesn’t want anymore of it. With our food allergy issues as it is, it is hard to just give him whatever he wants without going through a trial process. We usually wait to introduce one food at a time, and then give it a week to see if he tolerates it. So, we don’t have the luxury … Continue reading

Are Two Naps for Baby Cramping Your Style?

While to many people it might seem ideal to have your baby take two naps a day, it can also cramp you style a little bit. And, by style, I don’t mean your actual style, but I mean that it can make outside activities, playdates, errands, and chores a little bit difficult. I have said before that I love schedules. But, when babies take two naps a day, that makes the schedule very tight. You have a couple of hours to run errands or do outside activities in the morning, a couple in the afternoon, and then a few in … Continue reading
