At Walmart, is the Store Brand Taking Over the Shelf?

Large stores like Walmart have begun to quietly push their own store brand over well known manufacturer brands, with the result that shelf space for well known brands is now at a premium. We all like the idea that house brands are often good quality, and have a cheaper sticker price. But here’s the problem for a deal hunter – you can’t use coupons to purchase them. You can’t double up a coupon with a try me free rebate for a house brand and have it result in a free product and a profit! We’re all for low prices, but … Continue reading

Dollar Stores and Coupons – Check Their Policy!

I had a fun experience at Dollar General recently. I got a bunch of Campbells products, shampoo, cleaners all ready to go for the cashier. I bought no more than two of each item, matched it with a coupon, and got in line. All my coupons were from Coupons.com or SmartSource. Uh oh. Surprise! Dollar General does not accept internet printables. That isn’t just a cashier, or an individual store. They don’t accept any at all anywhere. Well, I should take my own advice – check the policy of the store on coupon redemption BEFORE you get in line. Dollar … Continue reading

My Favorite Deals This Year

At year’s end, I like to look back at the deals I have done and see what savings I’ve achieved. I really liked the ones for Hunts, Keebler and Nabisco products, where you buy a certain amount and get $10 back. There was one that was store specific to Publix, which I could do several times for $10 gift cards. Then there are the ones that keep going…. My favorite kind of deal is the type which keeps on going, either through a program, or continuous credits such as Extra Care Bucks, or Register Rewards. I also got quite a … Continue reading

Deal Debbie’s Target Adventure

I had an adventure in Target yesterday! Armed with Target coupons and manufacturer coupons, I went to do some Christmas shopping and pick up a few grocery items. Luckily, even though I am very late with Christmas shopping, I found all the gift items I was looking for. I also found that some local Targets are beginning to discount Christmas merchandise, including artificial trees, and labeling them as “clearance”. While I was there, I took advantage of some coupon matchups. Kellogg’s cereals were priced 2.89-3.29, and the ones I wanted were Smart Start (2.96) and Special K (2.89). I took … Continue reading
