Disneyland to Geek Out?

When I mentioned last year’s Disney fan convention, D23, I said it was like Disney’s answer to Comic-Con. I realized that some of you might not know what Comic-Con is. Comic-Con started in the 70s as a relatively small convention specifically for fans of comic books (hence the title). As the years went by other media appealing to the comic crowd, like science fiction and fantasy television and movies, were added. Forty years later, with geek properties firmly ensconced in the mainstream thanks to the popularity of fantasy and comic book movies like “Lord of the Rings” and “X-Men,” Comic-Con … Continue reading

Indiana Jones and the Temple of the Forbidden Eye (Disneyland)

Opened in 1995, the Indiana Jones Adventure is a fantastic reason to visit Disneyland. The adventure is a combination project between Disney’s imagineers and Lucasfilm Ltd. Indiana Jones and the Summer of Hidden Mysteries

Indiana Jones is back this summer (and in more than just the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull). He’s rescued the Holy Grail, the Sankara Stones, the Crystal and the Ark of the Covenant. So what’s next for the erstwhile and dedicated archaeologist and professor? If you said Disneyland, you were right. The Summer of Hidden Mysteries On May 22, a new season of summer fun kicked off with Indiana Jones being seen randomly throughout the area. He’s seen often at the Temple of the Forbidden Eye where the Indiana Jones Adventure attraction plays, but now guests get to enjoy his … Continue reading

Take the Train to DisneyLand!

You can now take the Anaheim Resort Transit (ART) train every hour from the Anaheim Amtrak station to Disneyland and other area hotels. Now, people from all over California can take the train (Amtrak) from places like Santa Barbara, Los Angeles or San Diego, then catch the 15-25 minute ART to DisneyLand for only $3 per day. This makes day trips much easier on families who can take the train because there will be none of that exhausting fighting of traffic or trying to answer the many “Are we there yet?” questions that inevitably come when you pull into a … Continue reading

It’s A Fat, Fat World

The It’s a Small World ride opened in 1964 during the New York World’s Fair. The beauty of it is that nothing has changed about the ride since then. The tragedy of it is that the average American weighs a whole lot more now than they did back then. Why a tragedy? Because our fat American butts are bottoming out the boats and holding up the ride! The ride was designed with an eye for most men to weigh 200 pounds or less and women who weighed 135 or less. We all know that the average American woman doesn’t weigh … Continue reading

More Halloween Fun At Disneyland

In my last blog I told you that Disney’s HalloweenTime is returning to the Disneyland Resort this fall. Tickets for the big event go on sale next week. Expect some changes to the festivities this year. According to Disney officials, the park will be filled with even more seasonal decorations and will feature additional not-so-spooky activities for younger children. In addition to the 12-foot tall Mickey Mouse jack-o’-lantern, Disney execs say the Central Plaza of Disneyland, near Sleeping Beauty Castle, will also be specially decorated with Disney character-inspired jack-o’-lanterns surrounding the famous “Partners” statue of Walt Disney and Mickey Mouse. … Continue reading

Halloween Disney Style

My 3-year-old daughter picked out her Halloween costume this weekend. (Snoopy, of course.) I figured since I procrastinated so much last year I would get a jumpstart on the holiday this year. Yes, I know it’s hard to think about ghosts and goblins when the rest of the country is still concentrating on swim lessons and sun dresses. But I’m not the only one preparing for the Autumn Holiday Season. Disney just released its Halloween lineup for its theme parks. Disney’s HalloweenTime is returning to the Disneyland Resort this fall and it’s being touted as one of the largest events … Continue reading

Disney’s “Third Shift”

Many visitors refer to Disneyland as the “Happiest Place on Earth” and if you’ve ever been to the theme park you know it is certainly one of the cleanest public places on the planet. But, have you ever wondered how it maintains its tidy reputation? The answer: the “Third Shift.” Not long after the last guest exits the park’s gates “cast members” (yes, even the maintenance crews were deemed such by Walt Disney) arrive to restore order to the Magic Kingdom. According to Disney execs, some 1,000 workers known as “custodians” clock in after midnight to inspect rides and scrub … Continue reading

Disney’s Virtual Day

The Disneyland Resort in California is going to weave a little magic with time this summer. Starting on June 11th, the cast members and management for the parks are going to create a virtual 8th day to the week so visitors can enjoy the Finding Nemo Submarine Voyage. The attraction is returning to the parks as a part of their Year of a Million Dreams celebration. Each day, the subs will continue their voyages to discover Nemo for as much as 2.5 hours after the parks close. Disneyland is typically open 16 hours a day during the summer months, the … Continue reading
