Is the Night Shift for You?

My sister in law is a labor and delivery nurse and like many young nurses, in order to get her foot in the door she had to do the night shift for several years. To avoid the costs of daycare, my mother in law (aka superwoman) actually worked the graveyard shift–also as a nurse–and then came home and did the supermom thing all day while my father in law went to work. I’m pretty sure that if I were in the medical profession, I would probably make a mistake that would cost someone their life while working all hours of … Continue reading

Top Jobs Until 2014

I absolutely love what I do now, but I also love to daydream. That’s why, when I see any information regarding different types of businesses and jobs, I always take a look. I especially love when people put out the ‘top job’ lists, so that is what I’m sharing with you today. What would I be doing if I didn’t own the business that I own you ask? Several ideas come to mind. I’d be a photographer and/or a writer for a national magazine like Food and Wine or, even better, a travel mag, which would mean I’d get to … Continue reading

Top Dream Jobs: Bed and Breakfast Owner

I picked up a copy of our local business magazine, OC Metro, and found an article about 25 Dream Jobs. I’m always interested in seeing what other people do for a living. Some jobs completely mesmerize me: creating video games or working in television, for example. This means that we’ll sometimes get a bit behind, but not … Continue reading

Encore: Q&A of a Working QA, Part Three

If you missed Part Two, check that out here. Have you worked for more than one MT company? What made you change companies? I have worked for three MT companies. I started out by working for a large national MT company. It was a good experience because they had a great training program for new MTs. I started out as an employee with a set schedule, and we were required to get a certain amount of lines transcribed in an 8-hour period. I quickly realized I was not the type of person who could sit there and work on a … Continue reading
