Dear Heather …I’m Exhausted

Dear Heather, I’m exhausted. I confess, I don’t like exercising. I do it because I need to do it and because I read blogs like yours that promote all the wonderful things that exercise can do for you. I want exercise to do all those wonderful things for me. But I have four children, the youngest is turning a year old next month and the oldest is finishing up the fifth grade at the same time. My husband works and is often gone for 12 to 14 hours a day. I never stop moving, from the moment I get up … Continue reading

Dear Heather … Back Pain & Walking

Dear Heather, I’ve been walking as much as 30 minutes a day since just after Christmas. I’ve been pretty proud of the fact that I’ve kept it up at a decent pace in order to get in shape and losing weight. I’ve lost a few pounds, but I’ve already noticed that I feel stronger and I’ve trimmed two inches off my waist. But over the last couple of weeks, I’ve been noticing tightness in my lower back and it seems to get worse when I am walking and it leaves me sore most of the day. I stretch out before … Continue reading

Dear Heather … I Want To Journal My Experiences

Dear Heather, I love your Fitness blog, it’s fun to read and you seem like a real person most of the time. I get the feeling you know what it is to have setbacks and to not be perfect and as much as I want to be that in shape, fit and toned person; I don’t think I ever will be. I work out, but only semi-regularly. I can never seem to get into a routine that lets me maintain my workout longer than two or three weeks at a time. You know how it is, kids get sick, a … Continue reading

Dear Heather…Can you be frugal & still get a good workout?

Dear Heather, Maybe I should have sent this to the frugal blog, but I had a question about being frugal and being fit at the same time. The simple fact is I don’t have a lot of extra money. I have three kids and I’m a single parent. My ex helps me out with child support, but I use that money to take care of the kids and keep extra in the bank if they need something. I try to limit my spending to necessities only with the occasional splurge here and there. A couple of years ago, I tried … Continue reading

Dear Heather … Exercise & Addiction

Dear Heather, My son has struggled with drug use over the last two years and while we have tried to get him into rehabilitation programs before and more to help him to quit, we’ve not been successful. Recently after running away and getting hooked again, he came home and said that he’s done with drugs for good. He’s been exercising regularly, running four and five miles a day. At first, I wasn’t sure if he really was doing it and I hate to admit it, but I’ve followed him and so has his father on many occasions and he’s doing … Continue reading

Dear Heather … Baby Wants to Get her Back, Back

Dear Heather How do I get rid of back fat? It’s a seriously annoying problem that I’ve had since the birth of my third child. I didn’t experience the same problem with my first two children. It’s very frustrating for me, many tops that I enjoyed wearing before look bad now and some of my sleeved shirts don’t fit correctly, I know it’s because of the bulges around my upper back and around the bra straps. Can you help? – Diane Dear Diane, Back fat. It’s an insidious and awful enemy for most women and it’s also one of the … Continue reading

Dear Heather … I’m Stuck in the Mud

Dear Heather, I’m stuck in the mud. Seriously stuck. I’ve been working out for about a year. I started on a regular regimen of cardio just like you suggested (I’ve been reading your blog since last April, I got interested during that challenge you were hosting, but I couldn’t keep up back then). I walk 60 minutes every day of the week. I started out small, just doing it 20 minutes a day, four days a week, but I’ve built it up over time. I walk, rain or shine and the only days I miss my walk is if there … Continue reading

Dear Heather … The Thin Commandments

Dear Heather, I like your blog and I like reading it, thanks for putting in the work to keep it updated. I hope you’re doing well, I noticed you haven’t been writing as much as you usually do. But I digress, the reason for my note is I’ve been reading some weight loss motivation books lately and I came across these Thin Commandments. I wanted to know if you’d heard of them and if you have any comments on them. If you aren’t thin, you aren’t attractive. Being thin is more important than being healthy. You must buy clothes, cut … Continue reading

Dear Heather … Need Some Creative Ideas

Dear Heather, We are looking for ways to be creative with our family fitness. We MUST do something low impact like bicycling or swimming because of previous injuries. So I am looking for creative swimming products and bicycling products that will allow all 7 of us to do something together. Swimming is a little easier because they have floaty things and swim suits that float and all that. Bicycling is more of a challenge. We are considering a tandem bike or some creative configuration that would allow us to pull the younger children along. Any brilliant ideas? Valorie Valorie, You’re … Continue reading
