Can A Pedometer Help You Lose Weight?

A pedometer does more than just keep track of your steps. I really believe it can help you lose weight. First of all, if you are new to the idea of walking for exercise you might not realize how many steps a day you are taking. Experts believe that those who are seeking optimal fitness should take 10,000 steps a day. That sounds like a lot. In fact it might sound impossible. But I challenge you to purchase a pedometer and find out how many steps you are already taking. You just might be surprised. Once you see how many … Continue reading

10,000 Steps and Counting: I Failed. . .

I had written a few guest blogs on how I was beginning a 10,000 steps a day program. I am not desperately trying to lose weight although that has been a side effect of what I had been doing. And then we were struck with one “crisis” after another. I got sick. . .then my husband. . .then the twins. . .and well I fell out of the habit. That’s what fitness is really: a good habit. We have a hard time getting fit because we don’t have good habits. Breaking a Good Habit However, I have learned that it … Continue reading

10,000 Steps and Counting: My Fitness Book Is Not Interactive Enough. . .

I want to note here that the idea to average your steps, increase your daily average by 2,000 and then increase by 500 thereafter was not my original idea. Have you read the book The Step Diet? It is a great book explaining the power of walking to help lose weight. But again, weight loss is only a side effect of my real goal: to get back into shape. However, I now have a problem with my wonderful book. It’s not interactive enough. I have been religiously wearing my pedometer for awhile now. I have been very good about increasing … Continue reading

I hinted in last week’s blog that we were going to talk about increasing our average steps by 2,000. That’s your goal this week. Take your average from last week and increase it by 2,000 steps per day. When I first contemplated the idea of increasing the number of … Continue reading

10,000 Steps and Counting: Setting Some Goals

Are you a perfectionist? I am. If Heather, or the book says that I have to walk 10,000 steps then 5,000 simply won’t do. The problem is that sometimes our desire to be perfect, sets us back or even worse, prevents us from getting started. If you think about it–it’s silly. I can’t walk 10,000 steps a day so I won’t try. . .but that’s how we think isn’t it? But remember our mantra? If you aim for nothing, you’ll get their every time. To aim for something you have to start somewhere. The question is. . .where to start? … Continue reading

10,000 Steps and Counting: My New Best Friend the Pedometer

Recently Heather Long has bombarded me with a slew of articles telling me to get back into shape after the birth of my twins. Well, okay, she probably wasn’t writing just for me. But oh, how I needed to be inspired. So I bought a pedometer to start tracking my steps. I am now four weeks into my journey with my pedometer and I love her. I may name her. Since her arrival in my life, I have lost weight, but more importantly–I feel better. Are you looking for some type of fitness to do but aren’t sure what? Buy … Continue reading
