Fitness Journal – Car Exercises

One of the drawbacks to living in Texas is everything seems so far away. There is not jaunting up to the corner store because the corner store is over a mile and a half from the house. There’s definitely no running down the street for something, because the next closest shop is about two and a half miles. So that means lots and lots and lots of driving around in the car. The great thing about driving around in the car is that there are gl you can do that help firm your abdomen and buttocks. First and foremost, check … Continue reading

Fitness Journal – Yourself!Fitness

Okay, this is a bit weird and a different step from usual – I pulled out my copy of Yourself!Fitness for the Xbox. I used this workout ‘game’ for many months, but stopped about six or seven months ago because – well frankly I was bored with it. I’d used it for more than a year and I think I’d run out of interesting permutations and the workouts all began to feel the same. I plugged it into the Xbox and fired it up. I decided that rather than picking up from where I’d been before, I’d start over from … Continue reading

Fitness Journal – Power Mowing and All that Jazz

Late yesterday, I was looking at our yard because the grass over 4 inches in some places (the amount of rain this year has really encouraged the grass growth) and my husband has a raging head cold – poor thing really sounds horrible. I’m not doing too great with the constant dental pain, but I can manage the pain with the medication. I debated the lawn mowing issue, normally I love working in my garden and the yard/garden is a very physical place to be. My husband was just not up to the mowing. My husband’s uncle said he would … Continue reading

Fitness Journal – Welcome Back from the Weekend

Welcome back to my personal fitness journal and I hope you had a great weekend. One of my primary goals is to demonstrate how you can incorporate fitness into your every day lifestyle whether you have kids, you work out of your house or you work in an office. You can do it whether you are male or female, married or single – all you need is the will to find the way that works for you. I’ve discovered over the last couple of years that while working with a personal trainer was a powerful motivator for me, I had … Continue reading

Fitness Journal – Will The Rain Ever Stop?

It’s raining again – and again and again. Tonight Harry Potter opens and my husband and I want to catch the midnight showing so we can review it prior to letting our daughter see it. Today’s workout was more about focusing on meeting goals as needed than on doing something fun. 30 minutes on the treadmill resulted in just over 2 miles traveled and I’m right on target to maintain my 15 minute mile. I was worn out after the treadmill and skipped my weight training today. I wasn’t feeling well and you may remember that I mentioned my face … Continue reading

Fitness Journal – Take It To The Park

It’s back to the park today and for good reason. The park is a great place for the kids to go and play – they need the outdoor time and to be honest – this hasn’t been the summer for outdoor playtime. There’s been so much rain (11 inches in June) and 44 days of consecutive rain showers. The rain comes in waves, we may get a couple of hours of sunshine in between and while we are grateful that after more than 2 years of drought that we are once again the recipient of rain – it’s great, but … Continue reading

Fitness Journal – Family Sick Day

There’s nothing worse than waking up not feeling well. Okay, there’s one thing that’s worse – when you wake up not feeling well and the rest of the family appears to be suffering from the same malady that you are. That makes it pretty rotten – all the way around. As a mom, my first duty is to take care of the kiddo, but when you’re feeling rotten – – it’s hard to find the energy. Don’t Exercise When You’re Sick A good rule of thumb is to not exercise when you’re sick. But like with many other things in … Continue reading

Fitness Journal – Lucky Day?

Was today a lucky day for you? I know it wasn’t what I would call a phenomenally lucky day for me. But then I’m not prone to looking at days as ‘lucky’ or not. We got up early and went to the park because for once, it wasn’t raining – go figure. We had 44 days of consecutive rain and while it doesn’t rain all day, the storms tend to make it muggy and unpleasant outdoors. My daughter tends to be very sensitive to the heat when it’s combined with the mugginess so we limited our park trip to just … Continue reading

Fitness Journal – Strength Training Today

Today’s workout focused primarily on strength training. Cardiovascular workouts are important I will walk my mile or more as needed. In the meanwhile, we start out with the warm-up and limbering stretches. Comfortable clothes are required and I didn’t both with shoes, most of what I was about to do I do at home and on the carpet, bare feet are more comfortable and I can use my toes for counter balance as necessary. (Try it sometime to see if you are more comfortable doing some strength training without shoes). I have my heart rate monitor, but I don’t pay … Continue reading

Fitness Journal – Steady As She Goes

It’s a holiday today and we’re heading out as a group to spend the afternoon together. First and foremost, hit the treadmill for a 15 minute mile. That’s right, we’re doing a 15 minute mile this morning. Primarily, I’m concerned with the heavy duty workout I did last night trying to curb my own frustration. Because I didn’t want to over train, I set the timer on the stopwatch for 15 minutes and poured it on. I kept the pace comfortable and monitored my heart rate. I wanted to do my best without overdoing it. I also wanted to see … Continue reading
