How Do You Feel about Your Progress?

Every-so-often my personal trainer asks me, “How do you feel about your progress so far?” Of course, this is my virtual trainer through a Wii program I use, but I still appreciate the question because it causes me to take a step back and really think about how far I have come and how far I have to go. Measuring progress will depend on your goals. Sometimes when I think about progress, I think about the weight I have lost. Other times I think about the changes in the way I feel about myself overall. Or even the amount of … Continue reading

Thanksgiving: Plan Out Your Eating

Thanksgiving is just a few days away. If you are like most people you are thinking about your plans. If you are going to someone else’s house for Thanksgiving, you are likely thinking about your travel plans or what dish you are going to bring. If you are hosting it’s likely the biggest thing on your mind right now is the menu. You have a list of items to get from the grocery store and you wonder if you will ever accomplish everything you have to do in order to get ready for Thanksgiving. We do a lot of planning … Continue reading

Setting Weekly Goals

Setting weekly goals can be very helpful in developing a solid fitness routine. Although I would like to say that everyday I will walk two miles, I know that it’s currently an unattainable goal. So by breaking my walking routine down, I can take smaller steps that will eventually lead to my bigger goal. I am just the type of person that likes to be realistic. When I set weekly goals for myself, no matter what area of my life I am working on, it makes them more attainable. When goals are attainable they give you motivation and encouragement to … Continue reading

End of May Fitness Goal Checklist

It’s the last day of May and it’s time to look back at the month behind us. I think it’s important that we take a day to self-assess where we are and where we’re going. Rather than waiting for the end of December 2008, let’s take a moment to check out how we are doing right now: How are your goals going? Have you started working towards achieving them? Are you encountering obstacles in your path? What are the obstacles? Are you discouraged or are you challenged? Are you still striving towards your goals? Have you made it to the … Continue reading

It’s That Time of Year

It’s that time of year. You know the time when gym memberships take a leap and every one you know is making a resolution to lose weight, work out more and gym’s are lining up to court you for your business. There are two problems with this time of year though. New Year’s resolutions sound great, but too many people rush in to do too much, too fast and either drop out before March. Others will convince themselves that this is not for them because it’s too hard or worse, because they hurt themselves. So What Do You Do? Stop … Continue reading

Don’t Let Back To School Back You Off

Yes, we’re back to school and the schedule is as crazy as ever. To add insult to injury, I’ve got pneumonia. Yes, you read that right, I have pneumonia. It’s the walking variety so I didn’t even feel that sick, I just had a cough that wouldn’t quit. Finally went to the doctor about it and now I’m on some heavy duty antibiotics and medications to help get rid of it. That’s a lot of what back to school is about: New schedule New commitments New responsibilities New viruses Getting adjusted to all of this new stuff can really get … Continue reading

End of June Fitness Goal Check

It’s the last day of June and we’re soaking it up down here. We went from famine to feast where rain is concerned and it’s impaired my workout more than I care to admit. It’s been hard to be flexible when the weather keeps turning on torrential downpours and it impedes our ability to head out and ride bikes, go for long walks and more. We’re making due and I just finished off June’s fitness journal here at home. Next month, I’ll be publishing my journal entries daily to give you some ideas of how daily journaling can help you … Continue reading

Goals – Building, Living and Being Inspired

Every day we hear about the threat of obesity against our children, our future and ourselves. Fitness and health are more than a niche market, in fact, it seems like everyone is getting in on the act. My mother called me yesterday and we were talking and she mentioned off hand that she just picked up an elliptical machine. You could have scraped my jaw off the floor! My mother bought an elliptical machine? She ordered an elliptical machine, received delivery, put it together and plans to use it. WOW! Then she tells me something else that threw me, up … Continue reading

End of May Fitness Goal Check

It’s the last day of May… seriously, it’s the last day and I am so not prepared for the end of May Fitness Goal Check. How unprepared am I? I forgot I needed to do it for one, I haven’t gotten all my May journals finished up, I skipped days here and there and I’m already so busy concentrating on all the things I need to do for next month, that I forgot you need to take a pause, take a deep breath and look back for a moment to see the path we just followed to get where we … Continue reading
