Birthday Parties for Twins

Planning birthday parties for twins can be a real challenge. I have identical twin boys, who have always shared a lot of interests, so that makes it easier. I have friends though with boy/girl twins and with twins who have completely different interests. Most parents don’t want the hassle and expensive of two birthday parties. And yet, you do want to treat each child as an individual. So what to do? I’ve talked to a lot of adult twins, and asked them what they liked and didn’t like about being a twin. I couldn’t believe how many adults complained about … Continue reading

Birthday Party Planning

My twins will turn nine in a few days. Like most children, they are very excited. And to them, Christmas was already a long time ago. Last weekend was a rush to plan their birthday party. I wish their birthday did not so closely follow Christmas. It’s hard for me to get motivated to plan for more things, when we still haven’t fully finished cleaning up from the holidays. Planning a party for twins is hard too. They have the same friends, so it’s silly to plan two. We have to find some thing we can all agree on. I … Continue reading

Birthday Parties For Kindergarteners – The Do’s And Don’ts

When planning your kindergarteners birthday party, there are a few things you’ll want to keep in mind. First of all, assume that the 50/50 rule does not apply. The reason is that kindergarteners are just starting out in school. Many of the students haven’t been in school before, and their parents are eager for them to make friends. So don’t make the mistake of inviting the whole class if you aren’t prepared for the whole class to come—because they will all come. Because of this, I’ve created a list of hints I hope will help you make your kindergartener’s birthday … Continue reading

Family Fun Tips: Face Painting Ideas

At my nephew’s birthday party yesterday, we went to a great little place in Frisco called GhattiTown – it’s a lot like Chuckie Cheese – only not. They had a face painter there who provided some great entertainment for the children with elaborate face paints from cat faces to robots to butterflies and more. The face painter even had a picture of the multiple eyes seen on Captain Jack Sparrow in the recent Pirates of the Carribean sequel. It was creepy on him in the movie and even creepier on the child in the photograph. Face painting is a lot … Continue reading

Make Birthdays Fun With Traditions

Tomorrow is my son’s birthday and the first day of school. He wasn’t too happy about going to the first day of school on his birthday, but then I reminded him that he would get to see all of his friends from last year and play with them. So he decided it was okay. Our children only get a birthday party with friends every other year. On the off year we just have a family party. This cuts down on the cost, amount of toys that my kids get, and every other year I don’t have the stress of a … Continue reading

Fireman Birthday Party

When my son was four years old he wanted to be a fireman. So of course he wanted a fireman birthday. I had just had a baby three weeks earlier so I wanted to make the party as easy as possible. It didn’t take much effort and the party was a great success. Invitations I found a clipart of a Dalmatian dog wearing a fireman’s hat. I copied it on to cardstock and then colored the fireman’s hat red. I also printed the party information. Decorations I decorated for the birthday party with red, yellow, and orange balloons and streamers. … Continue reading

Planning a Limo Party

Very often when adults plan birthday parties for their children, and when children make wishes about where they want to go, they seldom think of how to get there. Why not make a limousine ride part, or all of the birthday party? Everybody enjoys riding in limousines, but speaking as a former limousine driver, I know from experience that nobody loves them more than kids. I’ve driven groups of kids from middle to low income families around who feel like they’re millionaires when they ride around. For most kids, this will be their first opportunity to ride in a limo. … Continue reading

Special Occasion T-shirts

I’ve thrown a lot of birthday parties in my time, and part of my job is coming up with original and fun birthday party ideas. But the T-shirts I made at the last minute for my son’s tenth birthday party is the thing that everyone still talks about, so it obviously made the biggest impression of everything I’ve done. Here’s what I did: I bought plain white T-shirts for everyone in the family. To save money, I shopped in the men’s underwear department and bought thick Hanes undershirts. I washed and dried the T-shirts. Meanwhile, I found a good, recent … Continue reading
