The last short film depicted in the Lifetime movie “Five” went back to that little girl Pearl from the first movie about her losing her mother. Pearl became an oncologist specializing in the treatment of women’s cancer. She lost her mother at a time when breast cancer was not discussed. She was the oncologist for Mia, Lili and Cheyenne. When her daughter was about the age she was when her mother lost her battle with cancer Pearl herself was diagnosed with breast cancer. Governmental Funding

I just received a call from one of my friends who is concerned that her sister may have developed breast cancer and does not know what to do. The sister is unemployed and uninsured like so many American’s today should that be enough to worry about? Should she have to worry about affording a diagnostic mammogram? She went to a doctor who said well if you were my wife I would have you seen this week! Well we can send men into space but we cannot provide a potentially lifesaving test to everyone who needs it? Should a woman have … Continue reading

Next week is the Dallas County Race for A Cure and for the second year in a row I cannot participate because of my injured foot. This may not seem like a big deal but it is really is inspiring for me to go and see the sea of pink survivor shirts. I do not know what it is about the boost of energy and positive feelings I get when I go but it is a feeling like no other. The feelings of hope that I get when I walk on to the site is like no other. If you … Continue reading

When Does The Worries Stop?

I don’t know if this next statement is true for all cancer survivors or if it is just me. Whenever I get an ache or a pain or if I have to have any medical procedure I am convinced that the cancer has come back. I don’t know if you remember but the year before my cancer diagnosis my husband had been diagnosed with testicular cancer. His was caught very early and he had the tumor removed and went through 33 days of radiation and has been cancer free for 7 years now. I mention my husband today and his … Continue reading
