Supplies for Maintenance Cleaning

Today I am wrapping up the three types of cleaning.  We have already covered seasonal cleaning and deep cleaning.  In my last blog I talked about maintenance cleaning and how to develop a plan.  We finish up maintenance today by talking about the supplies you will need. You already know that I am a fan of Clorox or Lysol wipes (whichever is on sale).  Let me explain why. They are already moistened, so all it requires is grabbing one from the container and it’s ready to go.  I am big on saving time.   In fact, sometimes I will sacrifice price … Continue reading

Keeping Out the Bugs

In my last blog I talked about preventing bedbugs. There has been a lot in the news about the increase with infestations. So while I am already on the talk of bugs, I thought I would share my opinion on a product we have used the past two years…Ortho Home Defense Max. Like most people, I hate bugs. There are certain ones that I especially would like to ask God about…such as centipedes. Was it really necessary to create them? I have heard the defense. These squiggly little creatures help us by eating other bugs. In all honesty, I think … Continue reading

I Love My Vacuum

I did it, again. I bought a new vacuum and I think I’m a little in love with this thing! First let me say that I will not pay $500 for a vacuum, I don’t care how well it works, I can’t justify spending that much on a vacuum. My wedding rings didn’t cost that much. I’m not cheap, I’m frugal. I did some research on the internet and of course the name Dyson was everywhere, but even more surprising, so was Hoover, at about a fifth of the price. The reviews were good so I went to Kohl’s. The … Continue reading

Plastic Containers are Taking Over

Do your plastic storage containers multiply like rabbits? Mine do but unfortunately the lids multiply at a different rate than the containers. Round lids multiply slower and unique shaped lids disintegrate in the darkness of my cabinet. I’ve been cleaning my kitchen. I have to tell you my kitchen is my least favorite room to clean because it was very poorly designed. The cabinet pictured above is the worst offender. It is the biggest cabinet in my kitchen with the smallest door. The cabinet is a normal depth but it is three feet wide with a tiny skinny door at … Continue reading

Keurig Coffeemaker

I have a problem, I covet appliances. I don’t actually cook but I do love appliances. The appliance that gets used most in my house is my coffee maker. I’m an all day coffee drinker. Everyone always asks how I sleep but I sleep like a rock, caffeine doesn’t seem to affect me like that. Anyway I was at a friend’s house and she had the coolest coffee maker, a Keurig, one delicious cup at a time, and in only two minutes. I had to have one, because, as I’ve said, I covet appliances. The price of the Keurig was … Continue reading

Mr Clean Microfiber Mop

Do you have one cleaning tool in your house that you love? For me it’s my Mr. Clean microfiber mop. I think this is the greatest thing ever invented. It a dust mop, a spill picker upper and a mop all in one. I use this mop every day. My kitchen floor is laminate and every evening after dinner I give the floor a quick sweep with the microfiber mop. One of the best things about sweeping with this is that since it is more of a dust mop you are not just stirring up dust, the microfiber grabs the … Continue reading

Corner Cabinet of my Dreams

I just found the coolest cabinet ever! I want to remodel my kitchen, I surf the net looking for neat kitchen ideas. I drool over beautiful islands, wood floors and lots of space. The reality is my little kitchen is never going to be described as spacious so I need to find things that make the most use of the space I have. I don’t like those lazy susan corner cabinets, they are not a very efficient use of the space. My whole kitchen is a lesson in how not to design a kitchen so I collect drawings and pictures … Continue reading

Top 5 Household Gadgets

Now I don’t know about you, but my favorite gifts at Christmastime are not household products. This actually brings me back to my first Christmas with my husband, 20 years ago. Imagine my surprise when I unwrapped one gift after another, only to discover I was receiving household items. As if the colander and potato masher weren’t bad enough, he actually bought me canning supplies. Okay, let me explain something here. I am not a country girl, I am as city as city can get. So I don’t have the slightest clue about canning. And to be honest, about the … Continue reading

Using Homemade Laundry Detergent

So I made laundry soap. I decided to make the powder instead of the liquid. I didn’t put essential oils in it because it smelled good already. Here is the recipe I used: 1 cup washing soda I cup borax I bar Fels Naptha soap grated I used and old coffee canister to store it in. First I grated in the soap, then added the washing soda and borax and stirred until it was all a finely mixed powder. I used about a tablespoon for a full load of laundry. I wasn’t able to hang the clothes outside because the … Continue reading

The Versatility of Microfiber Cloths

I am really starting to fall in love with microfiber cloths. These were an ingenious invention, if you ask me. My first experience with one was after I had attended a Norwex party. They sell green-friendly cleaning products. I purchased the dust mitt, which to me has been a wonderful way to dust. You save so much money by not having to buy Pledge or other dusting products. But you also avoid the use of chemicals in your home. And you can wash these, so they are reusable. But I am learning that microfiber cloths are more readily available, so … Continue reading
