2012 Olympic Opening Ceremonies

Did you catch the opening ceremonies for the Olympics last evening? There were representatives from 202 countries parading for all of the world to see, and the Queen jumped out of a helicopter. I kid you not on that last part. The ceremonies started off with a video of Queen Elizabeth boarding a helicopter to get from Buckingham palace to the Olympic stadium. Along the way, she waved to her fans and they waved back. Tuning in a few minutes last, I first wondered if this was going to be a commercial for Great Britain, a sort of tourist piece. … Continue reading

CSI Provo at Desert Star Theater

Last night I saw the best play! If you live in Utah you need to go to Desert Star and see CSI Provo. If you don’t live in Utah you need to check out small, local theaters near you. They truly do give the best performances and are very interactive with the audience. I went to the play with one of my friends and her two children, eight and ten. The kids were laughing along with everyone, of course they didn’t get all of the jokes but they enjoyed themselves just the same. At the beginning of the play they … Continue reading

The Royal Wedding

The royal wedding is an event that I will remember for a long time. The fairy tale princess Kate emerging into the grandeur of Westminster Abbey to marry her Prince William and live happily ever after. Among the many venues available to watch the spectacular event, including the Internet, I choose to tune into the Today show for the coverage. My mean cable company won’t give me the BBC unless I hand over my first born child, so it was American all of the way baby. Plus, I like hearing Matt Lauer forcing his comments over the more polite chatter … Continue reading

The 83rd Annual Academy Awards

Did you stay up last night to watch the 83rd Annual Academy Awards? I did and I have the scope on the winners (and the losers). First, let us look at the hosts, Ann Hathaway and James Franco. What did you think of them? Of course, we know that everything is scripted, but I thought there were some moments of banter where it seemed obviously so. While Hathaway stole the audience at certain moments, the chemistry seemed a bit off. Still there was plenty of other chemistry going on there onstage, such Russel Brand and Helen Mirren. There were the … Continue reading

Disney’s High School Musical on Tour (2008)

Disney’s High School Musical on Tour fails to pass on so many levels that attendees at Dallas Fair Park’s Music Hall were on their feet and out the door before the final number closed. The story of High School Musical is trite to be sure, but what worked for Zac Efron and Vanessa Hudgens on the stage cracked more than a few sour notes in the live production. What Worked The saturation of High School Musical products makes it a well-known commodity among 8 to 12 year old girls and boys. The resemblance of high school life on stage to … Continue reading

Hairspray (2008)

Live stage is really where it’s all at. I had the great fortune to see a really fantastic production of ‘Hairspray’ live on stage at Dallas’ Fair Park Music Hall. One of the most magical things that can happen during a stage production is the transportation of the audience to the story that is taking place with the help of some lighting, a few props and the gorgeous voices of the actors and actresses on the stage. In this respect, the current tour of “Hairspray” is a smashing success. We sat just a few rows back as the story of … Continue reading

The Drowsy Chaperone (Summer Musicals)

Mixups, mayhem and a gay wedding … of course gay wedding has a different meaning now, but back then it just meant fun…. I was fortunate enough to sit down in a theater this past Saturday afternoon to enjoy a musical titled The Drowsy Chaperone. I’d never heard of it before and I had no idea what to expect when I walked into the Fair Park Musical Hall. We settled into our seats and I flipped open the program to see a great story about Patrick Stewart (love him) and flipped a few more pages to read the cast descriptions … Continue reading
