Family Movie Night: Heidi

It is harder and harder these days for me to find good entertainment for my kids that doesn’t have the affect of making them grow up too fast. Even a recent G-rated show had a couple of characters in it that, well, got busy. Although the action was never shown, it was certainly implied. Yikes. So for family movie nights, we tend to go back in time to movie classics, even those not yet in color. For example, there is Miracle on 34th Street, which, believe it or not, was a very controversial movie banned by the Catholic church for … Continue reading

Puss In Boots

Hailey and I took Ivy to see Puss In Boots. As a movie for a three year old, it was a huge hit. Ivy loved it and didn’t move through the whole movie, which is a good review in and of itself. Hailey enjoyed it as well, she thought it was funny and very cute. As for me, I was looking for something more, I’m not sure what but Puss in Boots just didn’t have it. Maybe I just love Shrek too much. I loved all the nursery rhyme characters, it was great how they worked everyone in. Not only … Continue reading

The Lion King In 3-D

The Lion King has long been one of my favorite Disney movies. It was the first movie I took my daughter to as a toddler so just the thought of it brought back memories.. When they released the 3-D version, I couldn’t wait to take her again. I was pleased to see that they hadn’t altered the original movie at all. Besides adding the 3-D aspect it was the same movie we have known and loved for seventeen years. All your favorite characters were there, along with the familiar story line. One of the most enjoyable things about watching the … Continue reading

“Letters to Juliet” | Movies On Demand

Sometimes all you want to do is plop down on the couch after the kids go to bed and watch a movie. Too bad you just mailed your Netflix DVD back this morning and there’s nothing interesting in the instant cue. All of your favorite shows are reruns and the only movie showing on TV tonight is some drama on the woman’s network about a girl who is seeking revenge against her mother in law and you’re pretty sure you can guess the ending. You could get in the car and drive to one of those boxes that give you … Continue reading

Involvement in My Sister’s Keeper

Having read the book My Sister’s Keeper I was looking forward to seeing the movie. Did it live up to my expectations? Yes and no. It certainly works well as a movie and is worth seeing. I’m glad I saw it. It’s a powerful movie that raises lots of questions. Even though I knew the storyline, it involved me totaly in the story of Sara(Cameron Diaz) and Brian Fitzgerald (Jason Patric) and their family. For those of you who don’t know, Sara and Brian find out their daughter Kate (Sofia Vassilieva) has Leukemia. The only hope of helping her appears … Continue reading

Harry Potter and the Half Blood Prince – the Movie

Harry Potter and the Half Blood Prince is the long anticipated sixth movie in the Harry Potter series. This is a pivotal movie, as it really shifts the focus of the series as the conflict becomes darker and the danger becomes more real. This film took a lot more liberties from the book from the other movies. It opens with Harry in a train station, not at the Dursleys. From there the film takes us through the beginning of the book and Harry’s visit to school. The action continues to build as Harry returns to school. The movie also follows … Continue reading

Star Trek (2009): Spock, Meet Spock

Let me preface this by saying I am not a trekkie. I loved the old series, but never got into the Next Generation and all that. When I heard about the new Star Trek, I wasn’t really excited about seeing other people play the traditional characters. I was going more for my four year old than I was myself. But, when I left the theater, I found myself pleasantly surprised with the film! This film takes us back, way back. In fact, we see Kirk make the decision to join the Federation’s StarFleet and how he and Bones McCoy became … Continue reading
