Davy Jones Dies at 66

On Wednesday, February 29, 2012, Davy Jones passed away in Florida from a massive heart attack. Fans all over the world are mourning and wishing his family well. The 66-year-old singer, actor and celebrity will be missed especially by the generations who grew up with the Monkees, either when they first appeared ion television in 1966 or throughout the years in reruns. Jones is best known for his time with the Monkees and such hit songs as “Daydream Believer,” and “I’m a Believer.” Many fans remember his guest appearance on the hit 70’s television show, The Brady Bunch. Beside the … Continue reading

Once Upon a Time Recap: What Happened to Frederick

Last week’s episode of Once Upon a Time was so strong, can you fault me for being a little disappointed in this one? Fairy Tales are all about true love, wicked witches, brave heroes and the like. Two souls who are meant to be would never find each other through adultery, something that usually winds up causing heartbreak all around. Heroes are brave and true, not men running around town spineless, not to mention standing by idle while their other half of the affair takes all of the blame. I’m getting so sick of James these days. He does redeem … Continue reading

Once Upon a Time Recap: Skin Deep

Can everyone say, “Aw….?” Or maybe it is “Ah!” This week Once Upon a Time focused on the Beauty and the Beast Story, but with a classic Once Upon a Time Twist. Can I call it classic when it is still a newish show? Lately, Once Upon a Time has been more focused with these little vignettes of well-known fairy tales instead of moving the overall plot along. I have mixed feelings about this. One the one hand, I am getting so tired of the Mary Margaret/James storyline, as it seems to be going nowhere. It even had the cliched … Continue reading

Once Upon a Time Recap: Fruit of the Poisonous Tree

“No, No, No!” I wanted to shout at the television screen last night while watching ABC’s Once Upon a Time. We knew all along that Sidney was the man in the magic mirror, but now we got the backstory as well as a little bit of Regina’s own. What made the evil queen so evil? A man she loved who didn’t love her back? Prisoned in a life of unhappiness that ultimately damaged her to the point of no return? We’d like to think that there was a good reason, an excuse behind the evil deeds of Regina, wouldn’t we? … Continue reading

Once Upon a Time Recap: Let Your Conscience Be Your Guide

I confess that Once Upon a Time has become one of my new favorite shows, because it brings fairy tales to a whole new…reality. In case you haven’t watch the series yet, let me catch up up on the premise. In a land far, far away, and evil queen puts a curse on the land of familiar fairy tale characters. Everyone is then transported to the modern world, where they live their lives together, never aging, unaware of their fantastic history. As they play their lives out, only one little soul, Henry, knows the real deal, and he strives to … Continue reading

Food Network Favorites

My husband and I are once again contemplating getting rid of our cable television service. The cost for the service seems to be getting out of control. And when you add in all that we pay for connectivity, be it for cable television or Internet, the cost per month is more than I used to pay for rent! While talking about it, the two of us and our oldest son discussed whether or not we would miss cable television. “We never really watch it,” our son said shrugging. “Well, except for the Food Network.” I never thought that I would … Continue reading

How Clean is Your House – TV

As I was flipping through the channels last month, I saw something that caught my attention. A woman with a British accent was explaining all the bacteria she’d found in a family’s home. The father looked a little frightened. The mother looked as if she were going to be sick. I stopped flipping, and sat down to watch. And after the show was over, I got up and cleaned house in fear of what nasty bacteria were lurking in our sinks. This half hour show is called “How Clean is Your House” and can be seen on BBC and Lifetime. … Continue reading

The Next Food Network Star

My kids are rushing through their baths tonight because in a little while The Next Food Network Star comes on TV. I’m not a big fan of reality TV shows, but we have watched the past two episodes as a family and have really enjoyed not only the show, but watching TV together. Most shows on TV these days just aren’t child friendly. Even the mild shows have language and sexual references that I’d rather not have to explain to small children. Two weeks ago there were ten participants, each week one person is dropped off the show. The winner … Continue reading

The Nanny

This fun and flirty television show caught my attention right off. Fran Drescher stars as Fran Fine, a rough-around-the-edges girl from Queens who’s been working in a bridal shop. Her boyfriend, owner of the shop, decides to break up with her and gives her job to someone else. Fran tries to get back on her feet selling cosmetics door-to-door, and while knocking in one particularly nice neighborhood, is mistaken for the new nanny sent over by the agency and is invited right in. She’s in the home of Maxwell Sheffield (Charles Shaughnessey). He’s a top-notch Broadway producer, widower, and father … Continue reading

Television Actor Keeps Legacy Alive

Dean Butler, who portrayed Almanzo Wilder on the popular television series “Little House on the Prairie,” became deeply interested in the real Laura Ingalls Wilder and her history. Even though the television show has been off the air for more than twenty years, Dean works diligently to pass the story on to others. Dean came on to the “Little House on the Prairie” set at the age of twenty-three and was cast as the love interest to the fifteen-year-old actress playing Laura, Melissa Gilbert. He was caught up in the story and spent time reading the book that features their … Continue reading
