Target Debit Card

When I was a little girl there was a K-Mart about 15 minutes from our house. We would get a number of things there. When Target opened a store down the street from the K-Mart it was the best thing ever. I loved the Target. It had everything. Many years later a Walmart opened. I really didn’t like the Walmart. Target was it for me. I liked Target so much that I had a Target credit card. I don’t remember using my Target credit card at all and then Target upgraded my card to the Target Visa. The Visa arrived … Continue reading

TabbedOut iPhone App

When I was a little girl I had my first savings account. Mom or Dad would take me down to the bank to deposit or withdraw money. The bank was open limited hours during the day, shorter hours on Friday, and closed on Saturday. When I was old enough I could ride my bicycle or walk to the branch in our foothill town. Then our bank had the most amazing contraption installed outside; it was called an ATM or automated teller machine. With the ATM customers could do a number of simple transactions without having to talk to a teller … Continue reading

Debit Card Mistake

When debit cards first came out, I thought… how cool! A card you can use in replace of writing a check. The idea saved me time and money — two of my favorite things. Then it all started to crumble. A woman I worked with had a horrible financial disaster… all due to her debit card. She had gone shopping at a local clothing store and bought a few items for about $50. The next thing she knew was her mortgage and car loan checks had bounced. Where was all her money? She called the bank to discover that instead … Continue reading

New and Improved Rebates

How have you been rewarded by companies that value you as a customer? Did you get a free cooler for opening a checking account at your local bank? What about a complimentary mug from your insurance company? If you have accumulated a closet full of freebies you don’t want then I have some good news. Now you may be able to pick out your own “prize” for being a new customer. Some businesses are offering promotional “rewards” that actually do more than just collect dust. For example, where I live a local cable company is rewarding customers for upgrading their … Continue reading

Gift Cards With A Twist

Are you dangerous with cash? Do you find yourself watching it fly out of your hands as soon as you get it? Well, you aren’t alone… and help is on the way. Prepaid debit cards. They’re like gift cards with a twist. Rather than tempt yourself by carrying wads of cash around, you can opt for a reloadable, prepaid debit card. It’s similar to a traditional debit card, but it is not linked to your bank account. Another bonus: you determine the amount of money the card carries. I visited the NetSpend website (one of the banks and private companies … Continue reading

What are Debit Cards

Debit cards look and act much like credit cards, but there is an important difference. Credit card charges represent, in essence, a loan from the creditor or card issuer. When you use your credit card to pay for a washer and dryer, for example, the money is then paid by the creditor to the store owner on your behalf. You are then required to repay that amount in addition to any interest charged in exchange for the privilege of the loan. Credit cards allow spending up to a predetermined limit. When you use a debit card the money you spend … Continue reading
