Barney Colors and Shapes

My last review was of “Barney Fun and Games”. In addition to this great movie, Barney also has many other educational and fun films. “Barney Colors and Shapes” is a wonderful movie to add to your educational collections. The movie features the typical crew of Barney, Baby Bop, BJ, and the children actors. The movie takes place in the playroom and begins with Barney as a stuffed toy. He magically appears as the children play with him. As some of the children enter, it is said that one little girl is in need of help carrying her books because she … Continue reading

Barney Fun and Games

Barney has been a childhood friend for some time now. His jolly character and cuddly appearance is very inviting to children. He has been known to make both the young and old at heart smile with joy. Barney shows and videos have been long loved by children and parents. They offer fun, excitement, and educational values. The Barney movie “Fun and Games” displays his typical movie pattern in that it features Barney, Baby Bop, and a group of children. Barney comes to life and creates a fun filled adventure for the children. He promises to show them his game machine … Continue reading

The Magic School Bus: Catches a Wave (1994)

“The Magic School Bus: Catches a Wave” contains three water-related episodes designed to teach your children science without their even knowing it. That’s why I love this series – it’s educational and fun at the same time. The first episode on this DVD is “Wet all Over.” Wanda and Arnold are paired together for their science report, and Wanda wants to make sure to get it just right by using real water. When Miss Frizzle suggests that they go to Water Land to explore water, the kids think it’s great. But then she turns them into water themselves, and they … Continue reading

Redwall: The Movie (2000)

Redwall is the creation of author Brian Jacques, who created this medieval world where mice are the main characters. His books have been hugely popular amongst fans of fantasy, and with the 2000 release of “Redwall: the Movie,” they had a way to enjoy this series in addition to the television show already created and the books so loved. Our hero is Matthias, a young mouse who was orphaned when his parents were killed by a villain named Cluny the Scourge, a huge rat. No, literally a rat – no reflection of his character at all there, although he is … Continue reading

Dora the Explorer: Big Sister Dora

Dora has many different movies out as well as her cartoon. Many of her videos contribute to a child’s character or education. In one of her movies, Big Sister Dora, Dora is awaiting the arrival of her new baby. While out on her adventure with Boots, Dora carries a cell phone so her father can notify her when the babies are born. Not long into their exploration, Dora gets the call. Of course she must check with Map to find the way home. Once her route is mapped out, she is all ready to go. Dora and Boots meet several … Continue reading

Go Diego Go! Great Gorilla (2008)

“Great Gorilla” was released to DVD not long ago, and the minute my son saw the ad, he wanted it. Ah, the magic of television advertising . . . we picked it up at Blockbuster the other day and watched it as a family. While only my youngest two are in to Diego and the rest of us consider it a unique form of torture, I had to admit there were some better than expected moments. The DVD contains four episodes. The first is the one for which the DVD is named. Diego travels to Africa to attend the crowning … Continue reading

The Magic School Bus: Bugs, Bugs, Bugs! (1994)

If you’re looking for a fun and entertaining way to teach your children about bugs, “The Magic School Bus: Bugs, Bugs, Bugs!” is a great way to go about it. Our intrepid and joyful teacher, Miss Frizzle, takes her class on three amazing field trips. First, we go “In a Beehive” and see the children become bees. They learn all kinds of amazing things about bees, including how to care for bee larvae and help them grow up to become adult bees, how nectar is turned into honey, how many trips from flower to hive it takes to make a … Continue reading

The Magic School Bus: Space Adventures (1994)

We love watching “The Magic School Bus.” It’s a combination of science, physics, and entertainment the whole family can enjoy together. I admit, I’ve learned quite a bit myself. “Space Adventures”” is a collection of three flight-related episodes put into one. Our first selection, “Lost in Space,” features Arnold’s cousin Janet as a visiting know-it-all who’s determined to prove that her school is the best. Arnold wants to show her how cool it is to take a field trip with Miss Frizzle, and when an outing is mentioned, he’s sure he’s about to make Janet eat her words. But when … Continue reading

Wall-E (2008)

Let me begin this review with a very simple, yet profound reaction to Disney/Pixar’s latest venture ‘Wall-E’. Wow. We sat down to watch it early Friday morning, the very first showing. The daughter was settled comfortably between us and the theater was pretty packed by the time the previews began to air. I’ll admit, I had some reservations about Wall-E from the first time I wrote about it right up until the moment the first flicker of film filled the screen. Boy am I happy to say how wrong I got it. The Story Wall-E is a trash compacting robot. … Continue reading

The Magic School Bus: Creepy, Crawly Fun (1994)

I can’t think of any other children’s television show that illustrates science so creatively as “The Magic School Bus.” You can get most of these awesome episodes on video and DVD to watch whenever you like. Today my children and I took a look at “Creepy, Crawly Fun.” It was creepy. It was crawly. And it was fun. The DVD contains three episodes. In the first, “Inside the Haunted House,” Carlos is trying to invent a new musical instrument that will really knock the socks off the competition at the band tournament. But no matter how he tweaks his invention, … Continue reading
