The Bill Cosby Show: Season One

When we think of Bill Cosby most of us immediately think of “The Cosby Show” where he played Cliff Huxtable the father of five and mother to Clair Huxtable the lawyer. I can remember watching episodes of “The Cosby Show” growing up, a smash hit of TV for eight years and now on Nick at Night, you would probably be hard pressed to find a television watcher who hadn’t caught and episode of the Cosby Show. So what about The Bill Cosby Show? The Bill Cosby show aired from 1969-1971 and starred Bill Cosby in the role of Chet Kincaid, … Continue reading

Punky Brewster Season 3

One of my favorite shows growing up was “Punky Brewster”. Punky was a girl really named Penelope played by Soleil Moon Frye. Punky was abandoned by her mother in a supermarket along with her dog. In an attempt to stay out of the orphanage Punky befriends an older man named Henry who takes Punky in and treats her as his own child. I remember dressing up as Punky Brewster one Halloween. Punky always had her own mismatched colorful style, and one of the coolest bedrooms in the world with clouds and flowers painted on the walls. Recently Season 3 of … Continue reading

The West Wing – April 16 – Requiem

Last week, the election results were delivered in bittersweet accompaniment to the death of beloved Leo McGarry. This week, The West Wing observed the passing of this tour d’force in their lives and careers. A funeral episode is hardly a new thing to The West Wing, in the second season – the episode Two Cathedrals honored the passing of the President’s beloved personal secretary Mrs. Landingham. Tonight’s episode, however, is made all the more poignant because we know that John Spencer also died. That this was not a plot driven device to create angst and pathos. Instead, the tangibility of … Continue reading

The New Doctor Who – April 15 – Dalek

As the title suggests, this episode of the New Doctor Who pays tribute to one of the oldest villains in the Doctor Who mythology. The Daleks made famous their screechy line of “EXTERMINATE!” The Daleks are also the reason that the Doctor’s people – the Time Lords – were wiped out. The Time Lords and the Daleks fought a protracted ‘Time War’ that resulted in the ultimate destruction of the Daleks and the Time Lords. Of those latter, only the Doctor seems to have survived. Now, in a bunker miles below the Utah desert, the Doctor discovers the lone survivor … Continue reading

The West Wing – April 9 – Election Night Part II

Last December, John Spencer died suddenly from a heart attack. His death stunned and saddened his cast mates and fans of West Wing alike. His death also spawned a change, according to the writer’s of The West Wing for what would happen during the Election between Presidential Candidates Matt Santos(Jimmy Smits) and Arnold Vinick (Alan Alda) as the inheritor of the soon to be exiting Josiah Bartlett’s (Martin Sheen) Presidential office. The ramp up to this showdown began in Season 6 with Joshua Lyman being courted by several presidential contenders, including Senator Arnold Vinick. The campaigns, the primary elections, the … Continue reading

The New Doctor Who

2005 is the year that Doctor Who, after more than a decade’s absence, returned to the small screen. Now currently airing on the Sci Fi Channel, Friday nights at 8 p.m. Central Standard Time; Doctor Who is in its 10th incarnation and warmly embraced by old and new fans alike. The British series can be confusing for the new viewer who has no idea of who Tom Baker, John Pertwee or Peter Davison are. The show debuted November 23, 1963 and inspired a following that could rival any Star Trek. Doctor Who, while labeled a science fiction series, can also … Continue reading

Gilmore Girls: Where They Lead, We Will Follow

Stars Hollow. Say these two words to some television fans and their own eyes will fill with stars. Stars Hollow is an almost surreal little town that is filled as much with charm as it is with its own cast of quirky characters. The two characters you’ll probably first meet when you step into the town limits of Stars Hollow are Lorelai and Rory Gilmore. A mother and daughter team that has lived in Stars Hollow since Rory was just one, the two could as easily be mistaken for sisters as they could offspring and parent. It’s around these two … Continue reading

The Office: Truly an American Workplace

Oddly enough, when picking a “favorite” television show, I usually fall headfirst in love with dramas that are borderline sci-fi or fantasy. After all, last season, my love for Lost began. Years before that, it was X-Files. In its first two seasons, I was a huge Smallville fan. So this year, I’ve found myself at an odd place. My favorite TV show this year doesn’t feature unseen island monsters or aliens that may or may not be alien-like in appearance. No. The strangest thing about this series is probably a character by the name of Dwight Schrute. And he may … Continue reading
