A Tale of Two Moms

Help me out here… Have you seen the TV commercial that features the ultimate helicopter parent? The ad stars a mom who follows her kid around all day trying to protect him from the big, bad world. In one scene, helicopter mom is at her son’s school answering a question posed to the class by a teacher. She raises her hand, provides the correct response, and then gives the credit to her son. In another scene, the mom uses her body as a human shield when it’s her son’s turn to be the target during a dodge ball game. Next, … Continue reading

Finger Food

Would you rather have your child give the finger or get it? Neither is ideal, especially if said finger is sandwiched between thinly sliced roast beef and a toasted sesame seed bun. U to the G-H! Parents are programmed with a natural instinct to protect their offspring, but when you are up against random human fingers popping up in your child’s fast food sandwich, even the most seasoned mom or dad may be at a loss for words. Just ask Jamie Vail. The Michigan mom nearly fainted last week when her 14-year-old son found a piece of a human finger … Continue reading

Revenge of the Lysol Moms

Have you heard about the moms who took cleaning to a whole new level? According to reports, two Colorado moms are being accused of spraying Lysol on teens they saw dirty dancing at a local high school prom. Clearly, the mothers didn’t read the back of the Lysol can very well; otherwise they would have realized that the disinfectant spray kills 99.9% of viruses and bacteria on commonly touched, hard, non-porous surfaces. C’mon, everyone knows even the toughest skinned teens are pretty porous. The moms should have used Clorox. I’m kidding. And by kidding, I mean rocking a mean smirk … Continue reading

Who Are We to Judge?

The death of a child elicits sympathy as much as it does gossip, especially if you live in a small town. Unfortunately, in many cases, that gossip begets judgmental finger pointing, and more often than not, the loss of a young life gets overshadowed by rampant speculation and vicious accusations. That’s exactly what’s taking place in a tiny town not far from my rural Wisconsin home. Last night, an innocent 2-year-old girl died after ingesting an unknown amount of gasoline. Meanwhile, her 4-year-old brother is currently fighting for his life after swallowing the same gas that killed his sister. According … Continue reading

Tan Mom vs. Snooki

Only in America… Forget the showdown featuring working versus stay-at-home moms; that’s so 2008. The latest battle on the mommy war front pits Tan Mom in one corner and reality TV mom-to-be Snooki in the other. It’s a fake bake smackdown… and it’s giving motherhood a bad name. And by motherhood I mean humanity. For those of you too busy raising your own kids to keep track of the war of words brewing between these two immature anti-role models, allow me to get you up to speed: Patricia “Tan Mom” Krentcil is the 44-year-old New Jersey mom, who recently made … Continue reading

Tan Mom

Snooki called her a “crazy b**ch,” while Jimmy Kimmel wondered if she fell down a chimney, and Dr. Drew speculated that she might be using shoe polish as a moisturizer. It seems everyone has an opinion on Patricia Krentcil a.k.a. “Tan Mom.” The New Jersey mother is at the center of a media firestorm following her arrest for allegedly taking her 6-year-old daughter, Anna, into a tanning booth causing the little girl to suffer serious burns. According to NBC News, 44-year-old Krentcil has been charged with second-degree child endangerment. Apparently, Child Protective Services intervened after a nurse at Anna’s school … Continue reading

A Family’s Tragic Loss

Most of us are familiar with the Biblical warning: “Watch therefore, for you don’t know the day nor the hour.” But, how many of us really take the directive to heart? For parents, life often moves at warp speed and the chaos that underscores daily survival can be overwhelming at times. So much so that most of us tend to lose sight of the big picture. I am guilty as charged. However, yesterday’s horrific accident in which seven members from a single family–spanning three generations–died when their SUV plummeted off a highway and landed in the Bronx Zoo, provided a … Continue reading

Hitting Parents Where It Hurts

I scream. You scream. I scream even louder, and you may too if you have to decide between paying your utility bill and buying your kid an ice cream cone this summer. If you thought the price of gas was high, consider paying double what you are shelling out now for a single scoop of vanilla ice cream. According to news sources, your child’s favorite dessert could put you in the poor house due to what is being called a “crisis” in the global crop of vanilla pods. This “crisis” has reportedly prompted some people to stockpile vanilla pods causing … Continue reading

Unique Family Planning

When did you know it was time to start or add to your family? Did you have a master plan in regards to becoming a parent or did you leave it up to fate? Many people factor in finances, emotional and physical health, as well as age before opting to procreate. It is very rare that something as obscure as a major construction project would play into baby-making. However, if you believe the media you might think twice about that theory. According to the several news sources, a “Carmageddon” baby boom may be taking place in Los Angeles right now. … Continue reading

Can You Afford a Large Family?

Octomom can’t. The Duggars can. Go figure. Nadia “Octomom” Suleman, the infamous mother of 14 recently got nearly naked for the U.K.-based magazine Closer. Unfortunately, showing her skin only helped pay the bills temporarily and now the frazzled mom is relying on government assistance to feed her brood. Juxtapose Octomom and the Duggars and you might as well be comparing night and day. For years I’ve wondered how much Jim Bob, Michelle and their 19 kids raked in for allowing cameras to document their every move and broadcast it on TLC. Thanks to digging by E! Online’s staff, it’s estimated … Continue reading
