Celebrity Moms with Tattoos

Having a tattoo or multiple tattoos is the thing to do today – even for celebrity mothers. I won’t say the trend started with Angelina Jolie, but she certainly has to be considered a forerunner. Jolie already had several tattoos when she adopted her first child Maddox. But, after adopting Maddox, she got a tattoo of a Buddhist Pali incantation written in Khmer script on her left shoulder blade. This tattoo is supposed to protect Jolie and Maddox from bad luck. (This file, by Chris Natt, is licensed under the Creative Commons Attribution 2.0 Generic license.) Jolie also has the … Continue reading

Michelle Obama’s Expensive Fashion Faux Pas

What do you usually wear when you volunteer to serve meals at your local food bank? If you are First Lady Michelle Obama, you throw on a pretty cardigan from J.Crew and some designer satin sneakers. Sounds innocent enough, right. Well, the moderately priced sweater is not what has people the world over buzzing this morning. Rather, it’s Michelle’s satin stomps that have tongues wagging. Obama’s Lanvin designed kicks retail for a jaw-dropping $540, and as critics were quick to point out, the shoes are “certainly not a reflection of the poor economy.” The high fashion footwear has a loyal … Continue reading

It Pays to be Michelle Obama’s Hairstylist

Straightening hair sure has its privileges… especially if the locks you are working on belong to the nation’s newest first lady. Michelle Obama has guaranteed her hairstylist a place in history, in addition to helping him land a development deal to star in a new reality show. Johnny Wright… remember the name. It’s one you’ll be hearing a lot of in the near future. The former Chicago-based hairstylist, who worked on the first lady’s coif for the Democratic National Convention, her upcoming appearance on the cover of Vogue magazine and other occasions, has reportedly signed a deal with 44 Blue, … Continue reading

What will Michelle Obama wear on Inauguration Day? It’s the $64,000 question… and the answer probably costs three times that amount. Obama Girls Going Hollywood?

Thanks to their father’s new job, we know President-elect Barack Obama’s two young daughters are headed to Washington, but if the folks at Disney have their way, Malia and Sasha Obama may have a chance to take Hollywood by storm as well. In a statement released earlier this week execs at the Disney Channel (one of the Obama girls’ favorite TV networks) invited the newest first children the opportunity to appear on the mega-popular hit series “Hannah Montana.” “We’re pleased that Malia and Sasha are fans and, as long as their parents say it’s OK, they are invited to the … Continue reading

Celebrities and Summer Vacation

How are some of Hollywood’s biggest names spending their summer break? For singer Sheryl Crow the sizzling hot temperatures aren’t stopping her from hitting the road with presidential hopeful Barack Obama. The Grammy winner recently revealed that she would be performing for the Illinois Senator on the campaign trail. Crow joins stars such as Oprah Winfrey and Ben Affleck, who have been actively backing Obama’s run for the White House against Republican John McCain. The popular recording artist and new mom says that she is trying to fit campaign dates into her already busy touring schedule. Despite the adjustments and … Continue reading

It’s Not Barbie, It’s Bindi

She claims she doesn’t play with Barbie dolls, but perhaps she’ll make room on her shelf for her look-alike. Bindi Irwin is a doll. Really. The Emmy-winning daughter of the late “Crocodile Hunter” Steve Irwin can now sit in your child’s bedroom. Well, at least a 10-inch version of the spunky tyke can. Wild Republic, a division of K&M International Inc., based in Ohio, just announced it is developing two different Bindi dolls. The first Bindi Irwin doll sports khakis, puffy pigtails and hiking boots, and comes with binoculars, a camera and other outback gear, as well as a cockatoo, … Continue reading

Bathing Suit Brouhaha

First, it was the guy who got ticketed for wearing a Speedo at a beach (of all places). Now, city leaders in Kanab, Utah (the community sits just north of the Arizona state line) are banning bikinis at area pools. Perhaps it would be best if we all just tanned in our own backyards from now on. Actually, the ban on bikinis at Kanab’s municipal pool has been around for a while… long enough for two-piece swimsuit fans to raise a stink strong enough for city leaders to reconsider the prohibition on the popular pool attire. The city council member … Continue reading

Pop Culture Potpourri: Fashion Disaster and Cable Gets Cut

This sue happy world just gets more ridiculous by the minute… If you tuned into NBC’s “Today” show yesterday you likely know where I’m going with this blog. A woman in California who apparently loves (or perhaps more accurately lovED) Victoria’s Secret has filed a lawsuit with the lucrative lingerie company after she claims a faulty staple linking a jeweled-heart embellishment to a pair of her thong underwear seriously injured her eye. According to Marcrida Patterson, she suffered permanent damage to her cornea after an allegedly defective “low-rise v-string” (part of Victoria’s Secret’s “Sexy Little Thing” line) flew apart and … Continue reading
