The Highs and Lows of Super Stardom

Now this is the way to make the most of a concert stop in Iowa… Billy Joel certainly made the most of his downtime in Des Moines this week. According to local papers, the Piano Man did a little shopping while he was in town for a concert… and when I say little I mean tiny in star terms. Joel reportedly walked into a local shop that specializes in vintage sports and muscle cars and left with a burgundy 1973 VW Beetle. The classic Volkswagen Bug may be small, but shop owners say it came with a hefty price tag, … Continue reading

How Did They Land That Gig?

I suppose when you are a celebrity the world is your oyster and therefore you needn’t ask if you will get to embark on a particular project (no matter how far fetched it may be), but rather, you wonder when the job will be yours. Such is the case with the following stars who are attempting to cross over to different public mediums, though whether they will be successful in doing is still up in the air. TIM MCGRAW Tim McGraw already has legions of Texas two-stepping fans and multiple Grammys to validate his career, but now he’s reaching out … Continue reading

Ready… Set… Rock!

In 1992 I was putting on the finishing touches to my college career that included a number of fabulous seats to a string of incredible concerts from U2 (twice) to Billy Joel. Back then the Stone Temple Pilots had just come on the scene and my boyfriend at the time was a huge fan. Who knew then that lead singer Scott Weiland, guitarist Dean DeLeo, bassist Robert DeLeo and drummer Eric Kretz would go on to sell 35 million albums worldwide and score a slew of Grammys? (Besides my ex-boyfriend who claims he was always a “believer.”) I enjoyed the … Continue reading

Carey’s Record Breaking Chart-toppers and Aniston’s Off the Chart New Project

“Touch My Body” by Mariah Carey, have you heard it on the radio? I haven’t, but after learning it recently made history I’m somewhat anxious to hear if it lives up to the hype. “Touch My Body” just became Carey’s 18th hit single and subsequently the pop diva has now passed Elvis Presley for the most No. 1 singles on the Billboard singles chart, and is now second only to the Beatles (the group holds the record with 20). It’s quite an accomplishment regardless of how you feel about Carey’s music or her image. Speaking of her image, Carey was … Continue reading

JESSICA ON THE MEND Just in case you care… singer Jessica Simpson is out of the hospital. According to reports, the 27-year-old actress was taken to Cedars-Sinai Medical Center and was later diagnosed with a kidney infection. The new album also includes a performance by Aerosmith guitarist Joe Perry who teams up … Continue reading

Pop Culture Potpourri: Angelina Jolie’s Newest Fans and Billy Joel’s Anti-War Song

Angelina Jolie may not know that some of her most fervent fans live in the Philippines. And they aren’t women who idolize the international film star or men who dream of wooing her away from Brad Pitt, these fans live in rice paddies… and they are asking the 32-year-old actress to lend them a helping hand. A left-wing Filipino farmers group trying to call attention to thousands of rural people who have been displaced by increased military operations wants Jolie to adopt their cause. The Farmers’ Movement of the Philippines, or KMP, wants the United Nations to send Jolie – … Continue reading

Ailing Crooners

Singer Robert Goulet, 73, is heavily sedated and breathing through a respirator as he awaits a lung transplant. The doctors have told Goulet’s wife, Vera, that a lung transplant has the highest success rate (88 percent) of all transplants. However, a suitable donor for Goulet has not been found yet. The National Lung Association stated that in 2005, only 25% of the 3,500 people on the waiting list actually received a lung transplant. Goulet performed on September 20th in Syracuse, NY, but fell ill shortly after the concert when he was on his way home to Las Vegas. At first, … Continue reading
