The Dream Concert

It’s a star-studded event to honor a man that helped shape history. This fall Radio City Music Hall in New York City will be filled with stars raising money to build a memorial to The Rev. Martin Luther King Jr. on the National Mall. The event dubbed “The Dream Concert” is being spearheaded by the likes of Quincy Jones, Russell Simmons and Tommy Hilfiger. The group of Hollywood A listers is hoping to raise about $20 million—the amount needed to complete and maintain the memorial. (More than $79 million has already been raised for the memorial, but organizers say to … Continue reading

Flea Brings Music To Inner City Kids

Whenever I hear someone talk about the “Red Hot Chili Peppers” I instantly think of Flea, the band member who is always flashing his gap-toothed grin and heavily tattooed body. Let’s face it; the guy is no wallflower. But, what most people don’t know about the man who was born Michael Balzary is that he defines himself more by the moves he makes when he’s off the stage. It wasn’t until recently that I learned about some of those moves, including his role as co-founder of the non-profit school, Silverlake Conservatory of Music. Flea says he decided to create the … Continue reading

Sheryl Crow Adopts A Baby Boy

Sheryl Crow will be celebrating her first Mother’s Day on Sunday. According to her website, the singer just adopted a 2-week-old baby boy she named Wyatt Steven. The name honors three important men in Crow’s life—her father Wyatt Crow, her younger brother Steven Crow and her manager Steven “Scooter” Weintraub. The announcement on her site didn’t give much more information except to say that the child was born in the United States and is healthy. “We are enjoying some very private family time,” Crow writes. Personally, I think it’s great news. This is a woman who has survived an emotional … Continue reading

Bette’s New Home

Celine Dion made headlines (and multiple appearances on Oprah) in 2003 when it was announced that she would be moving to Las Vegas to serve as the headliner at Caesars Palace. Now, the singer says she is ready to move on (some tabloids are reporting that Dion is trying to get pregnant again) and will be replaced by another famous female crooner—Bette Midler. Midler’s got some big shoes to fill (though, I think she will slide into them nicely). After all, Dion’s show at the hotel’s 4,100-seat Colosseum has been sold out for what will be a nearly five-year run … Continue reading

A Tribute To An Island Legend

In a previous blog I shared my memories of legendary Hawaiian entertainer Don Ho. The iconic singer died from heart failure on April 14th. According to news reports, in the days and weeks since his death, cards and flowers have poured into his family’s home and to the Waikiki Beachcomber Hotel, Ho’s venue from 1994 until his death. In addition, those who knew Ho best have been feverishly organizing a memorial befitting of the entertainer’s legendary status. If you are a fan of the late Don Ho you may consider heading to Hawaii this weekend (yes, I know, if it … Continue reading

Dissecting Britney’s Big Night Out

Well, at least this time she was wearing underwear. Last night, in what some are calling a “career comeback,” Britney Spears returned to the stage to perform in front of hundreds of screaming fans at the House of Blues in San Diego. The 14-minute set that featured her hits Baby One More Time” and “Toxic,” comes after the pop princess took an eventful 3-year break, which featured a marriage, a divorce, the birth of two children, and a stint in rehab. According to news sources, Tuesday’s show was highlighted by Spears’ “shaking and slinking around.” It also included a costume … Continue reading

Money, Money, Money

If we’re talking about making money (tons of money) then we must be talking about those high profile celebrities who seem to rake it in without lifting more than a glittery, high-glossed fingernail. Take for instance singer Jennifer Lopez (or perhaps we should be examining the person who recently hired her). According to PEOPLE magazine, the superstar raked in a cool $1.2 million in 40 minutes Saturday when she performed a 40-minute set of her biggest hits for a Russian billionaire and his wife. Thirty-five-year-old Andrei Melnichenko paid Lopez to sing at a joint birthday party for himself and his … Continue reading

Oh Woe Is Britney!

First, it was her divorce. Then it was her panty-less partying that led to her head shaving that leg to her stint in rehab. Now, pop princess Britney Spears has yet another problem to deal with. Oh woe is Brit… it seems the former Mouseketeer is having trouble selling her Malibu mansion. The 25-year-old mother of two put her seven-bedroom, 1.53-acre estate on the market in January for $13.5 million. According to PEOPLE magazine, on March 28th, the price dropped to $11.9 million… and could drop again. You’ll recall Spears purchased the 9,000-sq.-ft home, which features a garden, pool with … Continue reading

It’s been two weeks since Britney Spears suffered her now infamous meltdown in front of a hoard of paparazzi. Following the incident she entered a rehabilitation center in Malibu and has been showered with attention from Hollywood A-listers (including Brooke Shields) who have pledged their support for the troubled young mother. Now, another big name in Tinseltown is reaching out to Spears. Yesterday, Timbaland, who has produced hits for Justin Timberlake and Nelly Furtado, made a public offer to Spears: “Let me help you reclaim your career.” The 34-year-old rapper-producer’s full comments appear in an upcoming issue of Entertainment Weekly … Continue reading
