Golden Globes: Did Jodie Foster Come Out?

Last night’s Golden Globes was a great night of pretty dresses, good jokes, lots of drinks, and a few odd moments.  I have to lump Jodie Foster’s speech under the odd category. The actress (who I think is absolutely incredible at her craft) received the Hollywood Foreign Press Association’s Cecil B. DeMille Lifetime Achievement Award.  She walked on stage looking stunning – the blue dress was beautiful and matched her eye color perfectly.  She looked gorgeous and young, but reminded the crowd she was 50. The speech itself was rather scattered to me.  She seemed to ramble about her age … Continue reading

Is Macaulay Culkin Dying?

Is child star Macaulay Culkin dying? Well, if you believe the National Enquirer, he just may be. Culkin is best known as the cute child star from the Home Alone movie series. From an acting family, Culkin somewhat fell prey to things that happen to a lot of child stars. He started acting at age four and reached his peak at age 10 when he starred as Kevin McCallister in Home Alone. He appeared in the second movie in that series in 1992. He even hosted “Saturday Night Live” at the age of 11. But, by the mid-‘90s, his career … Continue reading

Angelina Jolie Pregnant Again?

I didn’t talk about it in my 84th Academy Awards blog, but if you saw the show, you will know what I am talking about when I say “The Leg.” As expected, the arrival of Angelina Jolie and Brad Pitt caused a big stir on the Red Carpet. I didn’t watch them, but I did notice the she was presenting an award that night. She handed out the Best Adapted Screenplay Oscar, but it wasn’t the presentation that caused all the media attention, it was “The Leg.” (The copyright holder of this work, Georges Biard, allows anyone to use it … Continue reading

The 84th Academy Awards

The 84th Academy Awards is over and it was record setting. For the first time since 1929 (when Wings won), a silent film, The Artist has taken the Best Picture statue. It was also the first movie filmed in the 4:3 aspect ratio to win Best Picture since 1955. It was the first non R-rated film to get Best Picture since 2004 (when Million Dollar Baby won). Jean Dujardin because the first Frenchman to win a Best Actor award. Was his acceptance speech charming or what? Michel Hazanavicius becomes only the second Frenchman to win Best Director (Roman Polanski, who … Continue reading

The Artist Predicted to Win Big

When I first heard about The Artist, I wasn’t quite sure what to think about it. It was a French silent film. I wasn’t a big fan of French or silent films, other than a brief Clara Bow phase I went through. But, I am always up for something new, so one afternoon, I took off work and went to see The Artist. If you are wondering why I took off work, it’s because I knew that neither my 7-year-old son nor my husband would sit through a silent film. I went to a newly renovated theater near our house. … Continue reading

Celebrity Swag Weekend

If things were correct in this world, the people that can’t afford a lot would be the ones getting award show swag. After all, can’t most celebrities afford all this stuff anyhow? But, as it turns out on this Academy Awards weekend, the celebrities are making out like bandits. I guess it is only far because only a select few will take Oscar home this weekend. All the others get to take home the swag. What’s up for grabs this year? For the stars that stay at the Four Seasons Hotel in Beverly Hills, quite a few goodies. Lisa Gal … Continue reading

Susan Sarandon Calls the Pope a Nazi

Oh, I was so looking forward to doing my Scary Places blogs, but this story just cannot be ignored. I like actress Susan Sarandon. I even go all the way back to Rocky Horror Picture Show with her. I have rarely agreed with her liberal view of politics, however, I can usually separate acting ability from views in most cases. In this case, I may not be able to draw that line any further. I think Sarandon was way out of line this week when she referred to the current Pope, Benedict XVI, as a “Nazi.” And, I am not … Continue reading

Dame Elizabeth Taylor Hospitalized

Last week, it was reported that movie star Elizabeth Taylor, 78, had been admitted to the hospital for treatment for a heart problem. Taylor’s rep, Jamie Cadwell, issued a statement that said the iconic beauty checked into Cedars-Sinai Medical Center in Los Angeles for “symptoms caused by congestive heart failure” and said today that Taylor will remain in the hospital “for the time being.” She was diagnosed with congestive heart failure, which is signified by an insufficient amount of blood being pumped by a weakened heart, almost seven years ago. If you know anything about two time Oscar winner Taylor … Continue reading

Charlie Sheen Enters Rehab

My family loves “Two and a Half Men,” as do millions of Americans, but I always point out that Charlie Sheen gets paid almost $2 million an episode for playing Charlie Sheen. And the thing is, he can get away with things no other celebrity can and still have the public loves him because they love the scoundrel he plays on “Two and a Half Men” so much. Take for example the past trouble Charlie has been in. Fifteen years ago, Charlie was named as one of the clients of infamous Hollywood madam Heidi Fleiss. He dated porn stars in … Continue reading

Harrison Ford Gets Hitched, Kate Hudson Gets a New Guy, and Chris Klein Gets Arrested

What started with an “accidental” spilling of wine at the 2002 Golden Globes has now ended in marriage. Actress Calista Flockhart finally got her man as she and Harrison Ford wed Tuesday in New Mexico where he is filming Cowboys and Aliens. The wedding was held at the Governor’s Mansion and conducted by Governor Bill Richardson. The couple has been together since it was reported that Flockhart purposefully spilled the wine on Ford in order to get to meet him. Ford proposed last Valentine’s Day. In 2001, the actress adopted son Liam but since the couple have been together for … Continue reading
