Ed McMahon is Dying and Other Pop Culture Paraphernalia

Former “Tonight Show” sidekick Ed McMahon is in “extremely serious” condition at an undisclosed California hospital, according to new reports. The 85-year-old television personality reportedly has been hospitalized for the past three weeks with pneumonia and other medical problems, and is now in intensive care. McMahon’s rep refused to reveal which hospital the star is currently being treated at; however he did confirm that the Super Bowl ad man’s wife and family members are present. On a lighter note… Melrose Place fans have a reason to smile today. The CW just announced that it plans to bring the 1990s soap … Continue reading

Celebrities and Valentine’s Day

Do you have a date for Valentine’s Day? If not, you’re not alone. In fact, some of Hollywood’s biggest names recently revealed that they have no plans to celebrate Love Day tomorrow. For example, The Office star Jenna Fisher dished that she won’t be sipping champagne and munching on truffles tomorrow. Rather, the actress says she will be attending her friend’s daughter’s bat mitzvah. Grammy-winning singer Duffy admits that she won’t be celebrating Valentine’s Day with the traditional romantic dinner and sweet sounding cards. Instead, the songstress says she plans to spend the night serenading “beautiful men”… in a gay … Continue reading

Rumor Report: Demi and Ashton, Farrah Fawcett and Bobby Brown

Demi Moore is warning you not to believe the rumors that say she and her husband Ashton Kutcher are adopting a baby. The 46-year-old is blasting the National Enquirer for reporting that she and her hunky husband failed to conceive a child naturally and were preparing to adopt a baby. According to the National Enquirer story, Moore and Kutcher “always resisted adoption because they wanted a baby of their own” adding, “but now everything has changed… after all the disappointments and the IVF treatments, everyone is really excited that they are making their dream come true. It’s a win-win situation.” … Continue reading

Posthumous Oscars

This year, the forerunner for the Academy Award for Best Supporting Actor seems to be Heath Ledger, nominated for his searing performance as The Joke in The Dark Knight. Ledger received the nomination on January 22 – the one year anniversary of his death. (This image, by Howie Berlin, is licensed under Creative Commons Attribution ShareAlike 2.0 License) In case you were wondering, other actors have been nominated for Oscars posthumously. In the past 81 years, 53 people have received 70 posthumous nominations with 13 of them winning. The first person nominated for an Oscar after his death was writer … Continue reading

Joaquin Phoenix.. . .Rapper?

Recently, Academy Award nominated actor Joaquin Phoenix kissed acting goodbye, saying he was leaving to pursue a career in music. Or, did he? When I first read that Joaquin was not going to act anymore, I was saddened. I’ve loved his performance in many movies, but knowing a little about his family background, I wasn’t surprised. In case you didn’t know, Joaquin and his siblings (River, Rain, Liberty, and Summer) were brought up in a less than traditional atmosphere. Their parents, John and Arlyn, were members of the religion Children of God. The Phoenix children spent most of their childhood … Continue reading

Steve Martin Makes History and Sarah Palin Goes for Broke

There is just something about Steve Martin that makes me melt… like chocolate on a hot sidewalk. He is one of my favorite actors, and I am now counting down the days until he makes history on NBC. The super funnyman is set to host “Saturday Night Live” for a record 15th time on January 31st. This will be his first appearance in three years. I can’t wait! Martin is the reason I‘ve seen “Father of the Bride,“ Cheaper by the Dozen,” “The Jerk,” “All of Me” “Dirty Rotten Scoundrels,” “L.A. Story,” “Parenthood” and “Planes, Trains and Automobiles” more than … Continue reading

Female Stars and Body Image

Don’t call actress Raven Symone fat. The TV star says she prefers to be considered “thick and fabulous.” Symone recently spoke out about her full figure during a Dove-sponsored self-esteem workshop specially designed for 11- and 12-year-old girls. The former “That’s So Raven” star’s goal at the New Jersey event was to boost the confidence levels of her young fans. The 23-year-old actress-singer, who’s been working on her fifth album, says she wants young girls to work on building their self-esteem and the reason she makes public appearances is to give them tools to defend themselves against “haters.” The former … Continue reading

The Return of Mickey Rourke

Remember last year when no matter where you looked, you heard about formerly down and out actor Robert Downey Jr.? Everything Downey touched turned to gold. It seems like this year, the big return may be that of Mickey Rourke. This photo is licensed under Creative Commons Attribution 2.0 License Rourke’s breakout acting role was in the 1981 film Body Heat. But, he also appeared in the ‘80s cult film Diner as well as the coming of age tale Rumble Fish. Like it’s predecessor The Outsiders, which literally featured every hot, young actor in Hollywood at the time, Rumble Fish … Continue reading

Pop Culture Round Up: It’s Not What You Think

It’s not what you think, or so claims Mary-Kate Olsen. The normally rail-thin actress says her baggy outfits are not signs that she is pregnant. Tabloids have been reporting that the former “Full House” star is expecting a child, but Olsen’s rep recently issued a statement saying: “Mary-Kate is absolutely not pregnant.” Olsen’s fans criticized the publications for putting Mary-Kate on their covers and jumping to the conclusion that she was having a baby. The actress’ rep declined to comment on her client’s weight gain. However, if there was any doubt that Mary-Kate was not pregnant one would only have … Continue reading

Tom Cruise Regretful of ‘Glib’ Comment

Tom Cruise has been many things –movie star, three time husband, father of three, Scientologist spokesman – but one would hardly call him humble. However, after several years of outrageous, unheard of (at least in his case) antics, Tom Cruise is now admitting he has had at least one regret moment. Cruise returned to the “Today” show to admit that his tongue lashing of Matt Lauer four years ago was a bit over the top. In the original interview with Lauer, Cruise argued that psychiatry was a “pseudoscience.” When Lauer tried to say he knew people that psychiatry had helped, … Continue reading
