Natasha Richardson Critically Injured and Oprah’s New Puppy Dies

Tony-winning actress Natasha Richardson is fighting for her life in a Canadian hospital this morning following a skiing accident that left her with serious head injuries. According to reports, the 45-year-old movie star is in critical condition and remains hospitalized in Montreal. Richardson’s actor husband Liam Neeson reportedly left the set of a movie he was filming in Toronto and rushed to his wife’s side when he heard about her accident at Mont Tremblant winter resort. Richardson is the daughter of Oscar-winning actress Vanessa Redgrave and producer Tony Richardson, who died in 1991. Her maternal grandparents were the famed British … Continue reading

More Bad News for Jessica Simpson and Don Imus

Jessica Simpson proves once again that you don’t need to memorize the words to a song to be a singer. As long as you look good in Daisy Dukes, and can use cheat sheets in the recording studio, you can call yourself a recording star. For the seventh time this year, Simpson was left red-faced and teary-eyed at a concert when she forgot the lyrics to two of her songs. She wasn’t drunk, fatigued or under duress; instead the blonde crossover says she simply blanked during a concert in California on Saturday. The gig was her final performance as the … Continue reading

The Joaquin Phoenix Circus Continues while Bret Michaels Opens Up

Joaquin Phoenix is in the news again and as you might suspect, it is not in a good way. The actor turned rapper has puzzled everyone with his new bizarre personality and looks, but no one really seems to know if it is all an act or just a frightening public breakdown a la Britney. Phoenix was performing at the Fountainbleau’s LIV nightclub in Miami Wednesday night when he experienced a heckler (and if you’ve hear his “music,” that is completely understandable!). It was around 2 a.m. when Phoenix, who had exchanged barbs with the heckler, decided to take matters … Continue reading

Making History: “The Simpsons” and Prince

Who knew a show about a yellow-skinned family with more attitude than brains would wind up making television history? The creator of “The Simpsons,” Matt Groening, says even he is stunned by the impact his animated clan has made on society… and they’re not done yet. According to reports, Fox plans to renew “The Simpsons” for another two seasons, which will secure its place as TV’s longest-running primetime series. The show is currently in its 20th season and has already tied record-holder “Gunsmoke,” which aired for two decades on CBS before ending in 1975. Groening says that by including the … Continue reading

Ed McMahon is Dying and Other Pop Culture Paraphernalia

Former “Tonight Show” sidekick Ed McMahon is in “extremely serious” condition at an undisclosed California hospital, according to new reports. The 85-year-old television personality reportedly has been hospitalized for the past three weeks with pneumonia and other medical problems, and is now in intensive care. McMahon’s rep refused to reveal which hospital the star is currently being treated at; however he did confirm that the Super Bowl ad man’s wife and family members are present. On a lighter note… Melrose Place fans have a reason to smile today. The CW just announced that it plans to bring the 1990s soap … Continue reading

Steven Page Leaves Barenaked Ladies and LAPD Investigates Rihanna Photo Leak

In August 2008, I blogged about Barenaked Ladies lead singer Steven Page. He was arrested in July for possession of a controlled substance. The arrest caused the band to cancel an appearance at the Disney Music Block Party in New York. The charges against Page were eventually reduced to a misdemeanor in October 2008. Today, it was announced on the band’s web page that by mutual agreement, Page was leaving the band. Page released a statement saying, “These guys are my brothers. We’ve grown up together over the past twenty years. I love them and wish them all the best … Continue reading

Leonard Cohen Returns to the Stage after 15 Years

I suppose folk singer Leonard Cohen figured that in his golden years, he could take it easy. After all, he had had a very successful musical career. Lou Reed said Cohen was in “the highest and most influential echelon of songwriters.” The Canadian Cohen won the Juno Award both for vocals and songwriting, a Grammy for album of the year, and has been inducted into both the Canadian and Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. (This image, by Cory Doctorow, is licensed under Creative Commons Attribution ShareAlike 2.0 License.) But, at the age of 74, he is touring again. Cohen … Continue reading

Chris Brown Tries to Salvage Career

In an effort to salvage what’s left of his career, image, and reputation, R&B singer Chris Brown has hired the same high-profile publicist, who helped Mel Gibson run damage control. The embattled singer is facing possible jail time for allegedly making criminal threats following a heated argument with his ex-girlfriend Rihanna earlier this month. According to police reports, the Kiss Kiss star threatened to kill Rihanna on more than one occasion. The 19-year-old released a public statement on Sunday saying that he was “saddened” by the incident that left Rihanna in need of medical attention. Reports say the female singing … Continue reading

Celebrities and Valentine’s Day

Do you have a date for Valentine’s Day? If not, you’re not alone. In fact, some of Hollywood’s biggest names recently revealed that they have no plans to celebrate Love Day tomorrow. For example, The Office star Jenna Fisher dished that she won’t be sipping champagne and munching on truffles tomorrow. Rather, the actress says she will be attending her friend’s daughter’s bat mitzvah. Grammy-winning singer Duffy admits that she won’t be celebrating Valentine’s Day with the traditional romantic dinner and sweet sounding cards. Instead, the songstress says she plans to spend the night serenading “beautiful men”… in a gay … Continue reading

Usher and Chris Brown Miss the Grammys

Last night was THE night for musical artists – the Grammy awards ceremony. But, two prominent R&B artists missed the ceremony for entirely different reasons. Usher’s wife, Tameka Raymond, is in a Brazilian hospital after suffering from a medical emergency. The singer’s spokesman Jeff O’Keefe released a statement Monday saying “Tameka Raymond is in stable condition after suffering complications from routine surgery in Brazil.” He added that Usher was with her, but wouldn’t release any further details and that the family was requesting privacy. Usher had to cancel his performance at Clive Davis’ pre-Grammy gala. Davis, the CEO of Sony, … Continue reading
