Axl Rose of Guns N’ Roses Calls Out Dr. Pepper

I was surprised that the new Guns N’ Roses CD Chinese Democracy came out before I died of old age. You would think Axl Rose, the only remaining member of the original Guns N’ Roses, would be in a good place right now. After working on “Chinese Democracy” for 14 years, Rose seems to have done the impossible – garnered decent reviews on an album whose expectations were naturally overblown. But, happy he is not. The guys at Dr. Pepper apparently thought they would get in on the hoopla of the release by issuing a statement that “if” Chinese Democracy … Continue reading

Arrest Made (Finally) in Hudson Family Murders

More than a month after police discovered the slain bodies of Jennifer Hudson’s mother, brother and 7-year-old nephew in Chicago, the Oscar-winner’s estranged brother-in-law has been arrested for the murders. According to Chicago newspapers, Balfour has not been formally charged in the slayings (prosecutors say that could come in the next day or so), but he has been transferred from an Illinois state prison–where he has been held on suspicion of a parole violation–back into police custody. Insiders say 27-year-old Balfour, who is separated from Hudson’s sister, Julia, will likely be charged with first-degree murder in the deaths of Hudson’s … Continue reading

Vampires on the Big Screen

The film Twilight, about the teen Bella Swan who finds herself in love with vampire Edward Cullen, brought in a staggering $70.6 million on it’s opening three day weekend. The success of the first of Stephenie Meyer’s books on the big screen started me to thinking of classic vampires through the years. There was the first vampire character, played by Max Schreck. Schreck was a German actor who played the lead role in Nosferatu. I’ve heard that Schreck was so convincing that some moviegoers actually thought he really was a vampire. (This image is in the public domain in the … Continue reading

Boy Band Reunites, Girl Band Splits

Lance Bass is making the most of his recent third place finish on “Dancing with the Stars.” According to reports, the former boybander wants to ride his wave of renewed popularity by returning to his musical roots. In Touch is reporting that Bass is trying to reunite his former ‘N Sync band members, including Justin Timerblake JC Chasez, Joey Fatone, and Chris Kirkpatrick. The popular boy band split in 2002 and the stars went on to pursue solo projects, but now Bass says he wants to bring the group back together to record new material. Bass tells In Touch, “It’s … Continue reading

Clint Eastwood Announces Retirement from Acting

His illustrious career in Hollywood has spanned more than a half-century, and according to 78-year-old movie legend Clint Eastwood, that’s enough. At least in regards to acting. Just a few days ago the Tinseltown icon announced that he plans to retire from acting. “You always want to quit while you are ahead,” Eastwood told Britain’s Sunday Express. “You don’t want to be like a fighter who stays too long in the ring until you’re not performing at your best.” Fortunately, there is some good news to report: Eastwood says by stepping away from acting projects he will have more time … Continue reading

Lindsay’s Flour Shower and Nia’s New Baby

I get the feeling a little flour isn’t going to stop actress Lindsay Lohan from wearing fur again. Animal rights activists tried to get the 22-year-old movie star to reconsider her fashion choice last night by pelting her with a flour bomb as she entered a Paris nightclub wearing a fur stole. A group of rowdy animal rights supporters reportedly showered Lohan with a bag of flour just as she was entering the famed VIP Room Theater with her gal pal, disc jockey Samantha Ronson. According to reports, Lohan was unfazed by the white powder and simply dusted off her … Continue reading

Celebrity “Duh” Moments

With the millions of dollars Italian con man Raffaello Follieri (a.k.a. Anne Hathaway’s ex-boyfriend) cheated investors out of you’d think he’d have enough to buy a clue. The 30-year-old businessman, who went from nearly wedding the charming young actress to serving prison time for fraud, is apparently having a hard time adjusting to life in federal jail. According to court documents, Follieri has a litany of complaints about his current housing situation. Hathaway’s ex reportedly had his lawyer send a letter to a judge this week complaining about the Brooklyn facility he is currently doing time in. “Mr. Follieri reports … Continue reading

Bill Cosby Speaks Out About Obama Win

Given all that we know about Bill Cosby, would any of us really be surprised if President-elect Barack Obama asked the actor to become an advisor on education issues? I know I wouldn’t. The award-winning actor/comedian/author turned education advocate isn’t publicly addressing offers by Obama (right now anyway), but he is speaking out about his influence on the nation’s first African-American president. There’s an argument circulating around media-types that Cosby’s mega-successful NBC sitcom “The Cosby Show” (which aired from 1984-1992) laid the groundwork for President-elect Obama by presenting an appealing black family to influential young voters, who grew up equipped … Continue reading

More Hoopla Surrounding Hudson Family Murders

If news reports are true, Monday could be a huge day for accused killer William Balfour. The 27-year-old “person of interest” in the triple murder involving actress Jennifer Hudson’s mother, brother, and 7-year-old nephew, could walk out of jail a free man by the end of the weekend. According to various media organizations, Balfour is currently being held behind bars on a parole violation in a case that has nothing to do with the Hudson family murders. The estranged husband of Hudson’s sister Julia is scheduled to face the Illinois State Parole Review Board Monday morning. According to law enforcement … Continue reading

Stars Celebrate Obama Win

Oprah Winfrey was front and center last night in Grant Park as her “boy” Barack Obama addressed a crowd of about 200,000 screaming supporters as the nation’s first African American President-elect. Winfrey has long claimed that she is Obama’s No. 1 fan, so it was no surprise that the TV talk show queen was on hand in Chicago to watch him make history. In fact, not only did Winfrey show up to the massive public rally in Grant Park she brought along her BFF Gayle King and Brad Pitt as well. “It feels like hope won,” Winfrey told news reporters. … Continue reading
