The Things She Says

I have a very talkative preschooler.  She is my fourth child so I felt I knew the path of a chatty little one.  However, she has far surpassed my other children in her ability to use her mouth on a nonstop basis.  If I walked as long as she moved her lips, I would be Twiggy.  If I slept as long as she moved her lips, it would be considered a coma.  As I type this I can hear her talking nonstop to her sister.  Our ears all get so tired we have to pass her off like a heavy … Continue reading

The Funny Things She Says….

My three year old says the craziest things! I am sure we all have the fun stories of things our children say. After four children I still have not been wise enough to record their adorable laughs and cute things they say. I always say I will write it down but I never do. My little one can be so funny as I am sure your little one is as well. Here are a few things my daughter has said lately. My son was talking about how she says “sweater” in a funny way. My husband said not to worry … Continue reading

My Amelia Bedelia

I live with Amelia Bedelia. My daughter takes everything so literally. I think the humor of Amelia Bedelia was lost on her because Amelia preformed as she would have. After all if someone told you to draw the curtains would not that inspire you to grab your pen and paper? What about dressing the turkey? What else could that mean then dressing it up in clothing? Living with Amelia Bedelia is full of surprises and laughter. Amelia Bedelia moment: My daughter came home from church all excited telling me that she could win a picture of Wendy’s is she did … Continue reading

Little Sister to the Rescue

Recently, my kids and I were visiting a friend and her family at their home. My friend has a huge backyard with enough toys and attractions to charge admission. Her backyard sports a swing set, little area to play basketball, a trampoline, pool, and a bunch of fun ride on kid toys and tricycles. I supposed with five boys you need a lot of home entertainment to keep them occupied. My children were thrilled to spend time at this play land with wonderful friends. Our experience was made even sweeter by the hosting family. The children are well behaved and … Continue reading

Watch What You Say

The first time I realized that I need to be careful about what I say in front of my kids was when my two year old said the word, crap. For me, it was like she said a swear word since that is about the worst word that I say. But, in reality, as parents, we should always be watching what we say in front of them. Especially now that my daughter is older, she is not only internalizing words I say, but complete ideas, thoughts, and overall feelings. Several months ago, my son was following his big sis around … Continue reading

The Lemonade Stand

My daughter has a lemonade stand. This is no ordinary lemonade stand. In fact, it is becoming a fixture of the neighborhood, or it has in the last week. You see, early last week my daughter and I went to do some errands. We walked into a toy store and this was a mistake. We were both tired. There was much whining and complaining and wanting of Playmobil, especially a certain camper van. The van is $60 with taxes, and there is no way I’m going to spend that much on a toy that isn’t a Christmas or birthday gift. … Continue reading

Our Home for Lost Dolls

My daughter seems to be learning to read using garage sale signs. Every weekend when we’re out in our neighborhood, she looks at all of the signs on the poles and says, “Oh! A garage sale. Let’s go!” This makes me alternately grin and cringe. I love garage sales and am often tempted to spend too much money at them. Then again, I find some great items for very low prices, and sometimes I even need them. Over the last year and a half, we’ve been collecting dolls. These aren’t just any dolls. These are the drop-dead ugliest dolls you’ve … Continue reading

What Does Your Preschooler Want To Be?

Our preschool offers a book purchasing program, and yesterday we got our order. In the order was a book for my daughter, called Doctor Ted. Ted loves to pretend to be different professions, and in this book he is a doctor, prescribing full body casts to treat gingivitis and operations to treat the freckles. At times, my daughter also wants to be a doctor. Needless to say, we read the book at least 5 times yesterday. A month or so ago, after walking past a particularly intriguing garbage truck, my daughter outlined her potential career path for me. First, she … Continue reading

The Glitter Box

I got into a funny conversation on a certain social networking site the other day. A few people were talking about sand boxes. Two years ago, I asked my father to make my preschooler a sand box for her birthday. At the time she was very fond of the beach and loved to pour sand and rocks. I thought that it would be a big hit. Unfortunately, the first couple of times she entered the sandbox she sat there playing happily and managed to stuff some sand down her pants. Sand down the pants is rather uncomfortable, and this sand … Continue reading

Liberty or Guinea Pigs?

Next week, we are going to visit some friends. These friends live a ferry ride away, in the capital of our province. We will drive to the ferry after work and preschool and visit our friends for a couple of days before heading back home. In June, my daughter and I are flying to New York to visit my brother and his fiancée. I’ve been saving for this trip for a year, and on my daughter’s birthday I’m going to take her to Stomp – she loves percussion and I got discount tickets. While I love seeing our friends, I … Continue reading
