Embellishing Mother’s Day Layouts

One of the sweetest Mother’s Day gifts I ever received was a scrapbook layout featuring various pictures of my daughter and a slew of her homemade art projects. My sister-in-law did an amazing job creating a photo collage using my daughter’s artsy masterpieces to embellish the page, along with several cute quotes detailing why she loves her mommy so much. Sniff, sniff. I love that layout. Fortunately, the page design is easy to duplicate for a mother of one or many. The collage requires at least five stand-out photos which can be placed in a random shape. You could also … Continue reading

Simple Mother’s Day Layouts

If you are short on time, money, or creativity this Mother’s Day you might consider crafting a single or double page layout for the special mom in your life rather than an entire scrapbook. Last year, my sister-in-law and I had our kids assist us in designing pages that we later presented to my mom on Mother’s Day. The children took creative control by selecting the photos they wanted to feature on their special “Grandma and Me” pages. In addition, they chose particular embellishments and mementos, and even helped write special messages to my mom in journaling blocks. This year, … Continue reading

Simple Ways to Preserve Easter Memories

Pretty Easter dresses, bonnets, bunnies and flowers. These are just some of the many holiday images you likely gathered today. Poetry in Motion

With kids home on spring break, now is the perfect time to get those little minds working for a good cause. My seven-year-old is a poet and she knows it, so instead of straining my brain to come up with original prose to add to my Easter-themed scrapbook, I’m letting her take charge. Depending on the age of your child, you may have to offer a bit more assistance. For example, when working with younger children, consider having them fill in the blanks to phrases, such as: I love Easter because… or Easter means (blank) to me. Another option is … Continue reading

Spicing Up Easter Layouts

For scrapbook designers looking to put a little hop into an otherwise boring Easter-themed layout, consider channeling your inner Jerry Seinfeld or Maya Angelou. Sharing a smile along with Easter photos of your family members can go a long way to liven up a traditional holiday page design. For instance, rather than simply adhering a bunch of pictures of your children participating in an outdoor egg hunt on plain scrapbook paper, pepper the space with silly Easter jokes, such as: What did the eggs do when the light turned green? They egg-cellerated What kind of plants do eggs keep? Eggplants! … Continue reading
