Gearing Up for the Holiday Season

I’m dreaming of a white Christmas… and a new Cricut Mini, Xyron Magic Sticker Maker, fancy punch kits, and a stencil set. What scrapbooking items are on your holiday gift wish list? While many scrapbook fans drool over the latest and greatest memory book gadgets, there is one piece of equipment essential to the hobby–a camera. With the busy holiday season right around the corner, now is the time to upgrade your camera if need be. After all, you can’t create stunning layouts with photos that look better in the trash than on your scrapbook page. Fortunately, decent quality digital … Continue reading

Self-adhesive scrapbook paper is just one of the many options available to make memory book constructing a breeze. Or, you could be like me and start hunting high and low for other self-adhesive products that are safe to use on scrapbook layouts. Fortunately, paper is not the only scrapbooking element you can use to save time creating elaborate layouts. Some other sticky options that busy scrapbookers may consider employing are self-adhesive charms. Rather than dealing … Continue reading

Signs of the Season

Most people look to falling leaves as a sign of autumn. In my home, it’s a set of blood red fangs rather than rust-colored foliage that marks the change of seasons. My 5-year-old nephew likes to scare my 8-year-old daughter with photos of his Halloween get-ups, which are designed around a pair of well-worn plastic fangs and loads of fake blood that drips from his mouth, down to his chin and throat. The pictures always score at least a couple of layouts in my holiday scrapbook. Yesterday, as I paged through past Halloween-themed memory albums I was reminded that All … Continue reading

Paper Picks

I am in love with glittered cardstock. The pretty paper has plenty of bling and goes a long way to add a festive touch to any page design. The cardstock is covered with a glittery background and allows you to place mementos, photos and other embellishments on it, though to avoid making your layout appear too busy, you don’t want to cover the paper with a slew of items. That’s just one of the factors you must consider when deciding on the type of paper to select for your scrapbook. While cardstock and patterned paper are essential for any memory … Continue reading

Avoiding Sticky Situations

My new scrapbook obsession is self-adhesive paper. The revolutionary product has opened up a new world to me, especially since I often scrapbook on the fly. Working with sticky back paper is convenient and mess-free. I purchased my paper at Michaels since I had a 40 percent off coupon, but you can also find it at Hobby Lobby, local scrapbook supply stores, and online. The Home Shopping Network has self adhesive cardstock, while Scrapbooking Supplies Online carries self-adhesive mulberry paper. Those options are only a couple of the dozens of varieties available. The sticky paper comes in a variety of … Continue reading

Savor the Season

Fall is officially here… and so are my allergies. Still, I don’t think designing layouts featuring photos of my puffy eyes, runny nose, and used Kleenex is appropriate for an autumn-themed scrapbook. Fall is one of the most gorgeous seasons of the year with its spectacularly colored leaves, fresh apples and blaze orange pumpkins. There are so many ways you can savor the natural treasures featured during this wonderful time of year in a mini or traditional sized scrapbook. Consider drying apple slices and spraying them with varnish to decorate your album cover. Or, take a stroll through a local … Continue reading

Printing on Scrapbook Paper

Taking advantage of sales on scrapbook paper is a great way to save money. However, if you can’t use the bulk stock as effectively as possible, then your purchase may be worthless. This is especially true if your computer printer places certain limitations on the type of scrapbook paper you can use. If you own a standard ink jet printer, you really need to pay close attention to the type of scrapbook paper you buy. When selecting paper consider the weight. For example, a heavy-weight cardstock may not be compatible with your printer. Also, examine the paper’s texture. If the … Continue reading

Get Set for Holiday Scrapbooking

Have you been to Michaels lately? Step inside and you may wonder what month it is. My local Michaels has two medium-sized displays of Halloween items and right behind them are 10 aisles filled with Christmas merchandise. Nothing like getting a jump start on your holiday scrapbooking. I didn’t have it in me to browse through all of the Christmas-themed supplies; however I did notice that Michaels is having a sale on cardstock. If you are planning to do a lot of scrapping during the holidays, now is the time to stock up on cardstock. Generally, you can purchase cardstock … Continue reading

Looking Forward to Fall

The leaves are already turning from green to gold, crimson and burnt sienna in my neck of the woods. While autumn doesn’t officially arrive until Saturday morning, it’s not too early to start thinking about page designs for fall-themed scrapbooks. The season brings with it a slew of amazing events to scrap, from major holidays, such as Halloween and Thanksgiving to everyday moments like leaf raking, apple picking and nature walks. With so many memorable moments to choose from it may be easier to focus on a single element. For example, if your family has a tradition of visiting a … Continue reading

Finishing Up Summer Scrapbooking

When it comes to seasonal scrapbooking, I am always a day late and a dollar short. It took me years to figure out that I am not a daily scrapper. No matter how hard I try to channel Martha Stewart or Rosie O’Donnell, I am simply unable to spend 20 minutes a day keeping on top of layouts. Now, I own my procrastinating tendencies. However, taking responsibly for my shortcomings doesn’t change my situation. I’m still as late as ever when it comes to finishing memory albums. For instance, as we sit just a week shy from the official start … Continue reading
