Safe Stickers

Regular readers of this blog know that I’m all about the stickers when it comes to creating memorable scrapbook layouts. It’s true; I am a sucker for theme adhesives that you can buy in bulk and elaborate 3D stickers that are sold in smaller packs. However, for as much as it may seem that I am a stickerholic, who randomly peels and presses at will in an effort to spice up a scrapbook page, I am actually very picky when it comes to the types of adhesives I use on my layouts. If you are just starting out in the … Continue reading

Inspiring Layouts

In a previous post I shared details about my attempt to win a Disney-themed scrapbook contest. It’s a random drawing run by my local scrapbook store in which the winner walks away with a table full of Disney scrapbooks, embellishments and a couple of nifty scrapping tools. You are only allowed to enter your name once, so it’s not like I can stuff the box in order to increase my chances of winning. Still, even if I don’t strike Disney gold, it certainly is inspirational looking at the sample scrapbooks that are included in the display. The owner of the … Continue reading

Work Those Words

Each month my local scrapbook shop sponsors a display which customers can win by entering their names in a little box. This month, in honor of spring break, the display features a bunch of Disney-related books and embellishments. Needless to say, even if you aren’t planning a spring break vacation to the Magic Kingdom, the contest is still worth entering, as you could easily use the Disney accessories to spice up a baby scrapbook or hold on to the items and use them when you eventually take a trip to a Disney theme park. We don’t plan to visit Disney … Continue reading

Scrapping the Funny

I got into scrapbooking long before it went mainstream. However, I took a very long hiatus from making memory books during my college years and subsequent time as a swinging single. It wasn’t until I got hooked on Rosie O’Donnell’s daytime talk show that I got inspired to scrap again. As you might already know, the former daytime talk show queen is also considered royalty in the scrapbook industry thanks to her endless chatter about her obsession with scrapping. Back when she had her own talk show, Rosie would spend at least part of her host chat discussing her latest … Continue reading

A Layout of Nicknames

As most parents, when my children were born, I was constantly giving them little nicknames. It seems that when they are babies, you can’t help but want to give them all kinds of cute names that you think of when you look at them. One of my favorite layouts that I ever did was a scrapbook page about all of the nicknames my daughter had. It was a lot of fun. The title of the layout was, “It’s official. She is my Bug”. Bug was what I called her most of the time, but I also had lots of other … Continue reading

Scrapping a Timeline of Photos

One of my favorite scrapbook layouts came about by accident. I was sorting through a stack of photos of my then 8-month-old daughter in her infant seat and mistakenly placed some of the pictures in a pile of snapshots taken of her when she was 4 months old sitting in the same infant carrier. It made me smile seeing how much she had grown in such a short period of time. What’s more, seeing her in the exact same seat in nearly an identical position made her growth even more pronounced. From that moment on I decided to take photos … Continue reading

Quick and Pretty Photo Collage

Scrapbooking can be time consuming. That is not always a bad thing. I have always enjoyed spending hours on creative pursuits. However, there are times you need to get your pages completed and do not have an afternoon or two to spare. Yet, you do not want to sacrifice the quality and creativity of your page due to a lack of time. For me, I end up not scrapping at all which results in many unfinished projects. We do not want unfinished projects or the feeling of being behind. Scrapbooking is supposed to be a hobby that enriches your life, … Continue reading

Wednesday’s Weekly Challenge-One Photo Pages

I’ve blogged a few times about how to fit more photos on your page. For me, and many scrappers, that is challenging. However, I realize for others, it is challenging to scrapbook just one photo on a page. Maybe some think it is a waste, or you just don’t know what to do with all that negative space. For whatever reason it is difficult, this week we are going to give you a few tips on how to make your layout beautiful with only one photo on it. First, one reason that I love to scrap just one photo on … Continue reading

More Theme Pages for Baby Scrapbooks

A new survey on expectant parents shows that more and more moms and dads-to-be are keeping the gender of their unborn child a delivery surprise. Not knowing the sex of a baby makes it a bit more challenging for the people throwing the baby shower, especially if said individuals are trying to design a baby scrapbook to present to the expectant guest of honor. If you are uncomfortable making a book that features generic layouts in gender neutral shades of green/yellow/tan, then consider creating a nursery rhyme theme. Not only are the colors universal, but the little ditties often teach … Continue reading

Cultural Layouts

My mother’s side of the family hails from Okinawa, Japan. Whereas I’ve incorporated a few Asian touches into generic scrapbook pages, I have yet to design multiple layouts or a mini album dedicated solely to my Japanese heritage. However, after recently viewing a vacation scrapbook made by a friend, who just completed a tour of Japan, I’m in the planning stages of creating a book dedicated to the “Land of the Rising Sun.” Fortunately, Japan is a popular country, so finding the materials needed to create stunning scenes has not been hard. I’ve collected a litany of Japanese-inspired embellishments and … Continue reading
