Ways to Scrap the Funny

In a previous blog I revealed how envious I am of Rosie O’Donnell’s dedication to scrapping her children’s funniest moments. In fact, the former talk show host reportedly cranks out daily layouts featuring current events and humorous sayings her four kids share throughout the day. Following my post I received an email from a reader who quipped: “What if your kid doesn’t say anything funny.” My response: Stick with it. Look for inspiration by playing a game with your child or simply spend time with your son or daughter. Young kids especially often say hilarious things when you least expect … Continue reading

Spring Scrapbooking

If I look really, really close I can spot a blade or two of grass under the pile of snow that is blanketing our front yard. I guess spring must be on its way. In Wisconsin spring typically arrives in late May and lasts for about 20 days… but who’s counting. Take it from me; you don’t have to be running around without a jacket, snipping fresh tulips from your backyard and humming along with the birds to get psyched about scrapbooking the first season of the year. Forecasters are predicting another three inches of snow will fall on my … Continue reading

Spring Into Spring

Spring is traditionally a time for new beginnings, so why not breathe new life into existing supplies to celebrate the first season of the year? Here are some ideas to get you started: If you are looking to add a punch of color to your spring-theme scrapbook layouts, consider placing flowers on the page. You can do this with existing stamps or die cuts. Or press some small fresh flowers and add them to … Continue reading

Spring Break Scrapbooks

Spring doesn’t officially begin until March 20th, but many families have already hit the road to escape Old Man Winter’s wrath and enjoy sun and fun in warmer climates. My nephew’s school spring break wrapped up last week. He spent five glorious days surfing, sculpting sand ramps for his Hot Wheels’ cars and snacking on his favorite sandwiches at a popular Hawaiian hot spot. My sister-in-law is now busy crafting a Spring Break 2011 scrapbook to showcase the photos she snapped during their family getaway. Spring break scrapbooks are a cinch to make, especially if you visit the beach during … Continue reading

Getting Dad Involved in Scrapbooking

A few of you responded to my blog: “Do Dads Scrapbook?” Apparently, guys are okay with memory book making, but don’t expect them to craft layouts on a regular basis. So how do you get dad more involved in scrapbooking? According to one reader, you should partner them with a child and have them create a father/son or father/daughter scrapbook. The project can be as simple or elaborate as you choose depending on the age and skill of the father/child team. Fortunately, there are a slew of scrapbook materials that feature a father-theme. For example, you can purchase a variety … Continue reading

Scrapping Baby’s Special Moments

Spring is primetime for baptisms. In some churches baptisms are put on hold during the season of Lent, which means as soon as Easter is over there is a tidal wave of babies being welcomed into the church. Regardless of when your baby is baptized, the occasion is extremely momentous, and certainly one you will want to scrapbook. Fortunately, since baptisms are common in many religions it is not hard to find scrapbook paper and embellishments that are theme appropriate. Of course, you can use any plain paper or generic stickers, but spending a bit more on special baptism-themed scrapbook … Continue reading

Scrap Scrapbooking

Just when I thought that I had seen it all when it came to unique theme scrapbooks, the owner of my local craft store pulls out another zinger. Her latest creation: a scrapbook made entirely of scrap materials. You have to see it to believe it. The mastermind behind the idea is a professional scrapper who really doesn’t have to worry about budget restraints. However, she put together the incredible memory book to illustrate that scrapbooking doesn’t have to cost an arm and a leg. This book is the epitome of budget scrapping. We’ve all heard lectures or read articles … Continue reading

Documenting Unique Milestones

Is there any experience that is not scrapbook worthy? Don’t ask that question to my neighbor’s niece who just requested that her scrapbook artist aunt create a memory book documenting her new tattoo. Apparently, the girl has a ton of photos of her latest tat and can’t wait to have a book to show off the story behind the design. I’m not a huge tattoo fan, but after talking to my neighbor I can see why some people scrap their tats. There are a myriad of creative ideas involved in putting together a tattoo-themed scrapbook. For example: Journaling If you … Continue reading

A Monthly Baby Layout

Some of my most precious pages that I have scrapbooked are of my children. I want to do an album of each of my kids’ first year of life to give to them one day. In those albums, I like to do a monthly layout about my child and what they are doing at that time. I always title the page, with the month that I am scrapbooking. For example, 1 month, 2 months, 3 months, etc. One of my all-time favorite layouts was one I did of my daughter when she was 9 months old. I do not always … Continue reading

Ideas for a Winter Scrapbook

Living in Wisconsin we are always wondering when that first snow will come. This past weekend it happened and it was beautiful. Now I am actually not a fan of the cold nor am I really a fan of snow…I only enjoy it when it first falls. But alas, I am a Wisconsite. Snow is going to be part of my life whether I like it or not. So I have no choice but every winter to just suck it up and get out the shovel. If you live in a state where winter truly feels like winter you have … Continue reading
