Diary of an Overweight Mom: Day 19

Morning Weight 179.8 Why is it that every time I get back into the 170’s, I eat out? Is it psychological? Am I setting myself up for failure? Today I ate out twice. Not once. Twice. My husband and I dropped our son off at afternoon kindergarten together then just “happened” to mosey on over to California Pizza Kitchen. Yes, we shared a salad and yes, I only ate one piece of Goat Cheese and Roasted Red Pepper Pizza, but I ate it. THEN when dinnertime came, and my husband was late coming home, and the kids were seriously on … Continue reading

Diary of an Overweight Mom: Day 18—Someone Call the Coastguard ‘Cause This Ship’s A-Sinkin’!

Morning Weight: 181.0 You may have guessed it hasn’t been the best few days. I got some potentially good news the other day, and instead of using the time to busy myself with some projects I needed to complete. I dove into cookies…and pie…and way too much bread. And now the scale reveals my “slip.” I’m not that concerned, truth be told. Today I got back on my healthy eating plan and I feel good. However, I will say that if you eat “badly” for a few days, going back to healthier eating with smaller portions feels a bit like … Continue reading

Diary of an Overweight Mom: Day 17—Get Out of Jail Free Pass

Morning Weight: 179.8 Total Weight Lost: 5.8 pounds Yep, today was one of those days. I didn’t eat so well yesterday, but today the scale granted me a “Get out of jail free” pass. And I’m using it to my advantage.I’m going to realign my goals and finally get to the store to buy some fruits and veggies. I want to discuss a trend I’m seeing among my fitness “buddies” lately. The trend is—wait, where did they go? That’s right, they are starting to filter off one by one. Why? Perhaps it’s because they’re busy. Perhaps it’s because they’ve made … Continue reading

Diary of an Overweight Mom: Day 16—Cholesterol Stinks

Morning Weight: 180.8 I got the results of my physical the other day. My overall cholesterol is 201. The normal range is defined as 200 and under. My other numbers were good, but my triglycerides were also 201, which is high. My take on it? Cholesterol stinks. It’s frustrating because at the moment two strikes are against me. For one, I’m overweight. At 5 ft 1 inch tall, 180 pounds is more than a “little” overweight. Secondly, my mom has high cholesterol, which means that I’m likely predisposed to get high cholesterol. So what’s a girl to do? Not give … Continue reading

Diary of an Overweight Mom: Day 15—The Ups-Downs-And-All-Arounds

Morning Weight: 180.8 Hello friends, It’s been two weeks since I started this journal. And what an eye opening experience it’s been. I’ve lost five pounds and now realize the areas I need to improve. Up until now, I’ve let you in my dirty little secret—my food journal. However, I realized that, although most people realize that my food “plan” is for me only, there may be people who think they should try to duplicate what I’m eating (when I’m losing weight, that is) in order to have success themselves. Because of this, I’m going to nix the journal. I’ll … Continue reading

Diary of an Overweight Mom: Day 14—Out of Town Guests and The Spaghetti Factory

Morning Weight: 179.8 Well, my parents came into town this weekend. The result? A wonderful barbecue and a filling meal out at the Old Spaghetti Factory. Going there, I knew I was going to blow my sensible eating plan. But I tried to plan for it as best as I could. I didn’t eat a lot during the day, but when it came time for dinner, I was so hungry, I threw all caution to the wind and dived right in to the cheesy garlic bread, salad, pasta, and yes, the spumoni ice cream. I’m not proud, but I don’t … Continue reading

Diary of an Overweight Mom: Day 13—You Know What They Say About Unlucky 13…

Morning Weight: 179.8 Well, it’s still in the 179-pound area, though I went up a few ounces. That’s okay though. Mainly because tomorrow I’m likely to be in the 190’s. Okay, I’m exaggerating, as I frequently do, but still, I didn’t do so hot today. The reason? I need to go shopping. You know how it goes—you’re doing great. The fridge is stocked with healthy food; lots of fruits and veggies. But by the end of the week one of two things happens. Either A) You still have all the fruits and veggies left because you ditched them and opted … Continue reading

Diary of an Overweight Mom: Day 12—I Flashed the Doctor

Morning Weight: 179.4 I feel a bit like a ping pong ball the way my weight keeps going back up to 180 and then back down to 179. I’d sure like it to go to 178 instead… Okay, so here’s the scoop. I went to the doctor yesterday to get a physical. I’m interested to find out about my cholesterol levels because my triglycerides were high three years ago and I haven’t had a physical since (I know, shame on me). I also haven’t had a “well woman” exam since the birth of my daughter 2 ½ years ago. So … Continue reading

The Diary of an Overweight Mom: Day 11—“I Told Ya So”

Morning Weight: 180.8 Yep, the scale was up this morning. I suppose in my quest to NOT do “low carbohydrate” eating I wound up doing the opposite. Carbohydrate fests are no better for my body than skipping them all together. After pasta and potato salad yesterday, a few ounces was inevitable. When I stood on the scale this morning (after sighing heavily and stepping on twice again, just to be sure there wasn’t a mistake) I thought about a few nights ago. My husband and I were in the bathroom together brushing our teeth before bed. I turned to step … Continue reading

Diary of an Overweight Mom: Day 10—Someone Get Me a Hose ‘Cause I’m on FIRE!!!

Morning Weight: 179.8 In case you’re wondering if that was a typo, let me say it loud and clear: I’M OUT OF THE 180’s. Woohoo! (Picture me here doing the happy dance) Do you know how this feels? Like I’m on a caffeine high. Like I just won a Pulitzer Prize. Heck, like I’ve just won Publisher’s Clearinghouse or the Pillsbury Bake-Off! If you’ve never been heavy then maybe you can’t relate. But if you are, or have ever been a little more “fluffy” than you’d like, let me tell you, getting into another weight bracket matters. I can hear … Continue reading
