Ripped in 30: Day 1

For the first time in a very long time I worked out until I thought I couldn’t make one more step. No more knee or ankle injuries to hold me back. No more excuses. I am overweight and ever since gaining so much, I have felt exhausted and lacked confidence. I feel like my sugar is out of wack and have to huff and puff just doing normal activity. I never should have allowed 30 to 40 extra pounds to accumulate but it happened. Now, is time to deal with it. I decided to deal with it by beginning a … Continue reading

Working out is hard to do!

Working out is hard to do. It requires time, energy, and motivation. Let’s be real, those are things many of us are short on these days. So when you finally decide to find the time, energy, and motivation, you want to put in a solid workout. The one way to do that is through hard work that stretches the limit of the energy and motivation mustered up for that day. It is during that time you wish you never stopped working out to begin with or started when you were more naturally in shape. There was a time when I … Continue reading

Great Blog for Workouts and Motivation

Have you heard of Peanut Butter Fingers? No, it isn’t a new treat on the market it is a blog about fitness. I recently became aware of this blog while looking for workout routines I could effectively do in my home. Most home workouts are on DVD’s or Netflix. After a while they get boring and you lack the motivation to pop in the DVD or switch over to Netflix. I wanted to find something with teeth and something to fight the boredom. On my search I found a few tips here and there but it was not until looking … Continue reading

Kicked Off Basketball

Our kids signed up for basketball this winter through our local recreation center my sons are at their second practice and my husband just called and said that the coach told him that my 10 year old son is not going to be allowed on the team because it is for 12 and under. He said that he should be on the team for 10 and unders. Now my 10 year old is the height of most 11 and 12 year old boys and the coach asked for him to be on his team but now he is saying that … Continue reading

I Still Won’t Weigh

Well my kids are losing weight and keep weighing themselves but I still have not weighed myself I really cant. See with my breast cancer I have now developed something called Lymphedema. Lymphedema is where protein filled fluid basically gets trapped in a limb and when you have lymph nodes removed when you have cancer you are always at risk of developing it. I am not happy about it because starting next week I am going to have this giant compression wrap on my left arm. It is a good thing I am right handed. Well with all this extra … Continue reading

Fun Find: KeepCup

A popular exercise method for moms is going on walks. Walking is easy, burns calories, and an activity you can share with your kids. My kids and I go on walks all the time. One thing I enjoy bringing with me on my walks is a cup. I especially loved bringing a hot tea on the morning walks but didn’t have an easy way to bring it. The thermos was huge and it did not fit right in the cup holder of my stroller. A cup of hot unsweetened tea could keep me walking to the park and back without … Continue reading

Working Out Together

Goals have a funny way of going by the wayside if there is no accountability. More times than I can count I have started a diet or workout routine and stopped mid stream because no one was holding me accountable. I am not an athlete, so working out is only a means to fitting in skinny jeans. Yes, health is a primary goal but even that gets pushed aside when life gets in the way. For people like me that work out to lose weight or to maintain your weight when the tide of life rolls in the first thing … Continue reading

Working Out When You Are Overweight

Question: It is so difficult for me to work out, as I am very overweight. I get short of breath easily and it is so uncomfortable for me just to move let alone bend over to touch my toes. How can I work out without it being so uncomfortable? Answer: If you are overweight and trying to exercise it will most likely be uncomfortable…..at first. Remember, you are carrying the excess load of that additional weight. Start out slow, but not too slow. You are going to have to push yourself a little bit.okay…you will have to push yourself a … Continue reading

Season of Skimpiness: It’s Coming!

It is coming. That dreaded season of skimpy clothing. Are you ready for it? Do not worry. There is time, but you must start now. In approximately fourteen weeks from now you are going to want to wear less. The weather alone will force you into this unless you do not mind sweating, which I absolutely despise. Being in the northeastern part of the U.S. I am more of a cold weather person than a warm weather person. I can better tolerate the sub zero temperatures than the sizzling, scorching 80s. Yes, that is really HOT for us up here. … Continue reading

Time To Get Moving! Make the Most of Your Work Day

I am having a difficult time fitting exercise into my week this week. I did so good over the weekend but the first three days of the work week are proving to be quite sedentary. I work as a vocational counselor for the real estate industry during the day so it is not uncommon for a good portion of my day to be spent sitting and on the telephone. Monday I went straight from work to school and did not get home until after ten o’clock. Tuesday I went straight from work to a meeting and dinner reception. Tonight, Wednesday, … Continue reading
