Janet Jackson’s New Project

Janet Jackson is writing a new book. According to People Magazine, she is going to write about her weight problems and weight loss over the years. Having been a fan of Miss Janet’s for many years, I remember her great figure when Rhythm Nation was released. I also remember her subsequent weight gain. The videos for her next album showed a newly svelte Janet complete with ripped abs and belly baring fashions. Over the years, she has played the yo-yo with weight gain and weight loss. When she loses weight she looks fantastic but she has a tendency to really … Continue reading

Don’t Deny Your Chocolate Cravings

First, I want to say that chocolate can be a deadly sin for many dieters. If you’re the kind of person who can eat three chocolate kisses and then stop, that is great. But if a small piece of chocolate will start you rolling down Hershey Bar Hill and you won’t be able to stop until you’ve hit the bottom and eaten every piece of chocolate in the house then forget it. What you have is not a craving but an addiction. If you have a simple occasional craving for chocolate while dieting, don’t deny it. British researchers found that … Continue reading

Don’t Fall for Enviga

Nestle (a division of Coca-Cola) has produced a new drink called Enviga and claims that this energy drink can help us burn calories. Let’s see how it works… The caffeinated, carbonated drink comes in green tea, berry and peach flavors. It is sold in 12-ounce cans at a price of $1.29 to $1.49 per can. The claim is that it will help us to burn an extra 60-100 calories when we consume three cans a day. (That’s a cost of up to $4.47 for 100 calories burned.) Nestle isn’t making these claims without having done at least a little homework … Continue reading

Short-Term Fasting Can Work

It has been touted in Brad Pilon’s new book, Eat Stop Eat. Its benefits have been discussed at length in the Families.com Forums and in other blogs. It has been condemned by modern medicine, nutritionists and dieticians. But hey, they’re the ones who told me to eat eleven servings of starch a day and lay off the meat. That got me to gain weight instead of losing it! Now there is new scientific evidence that supports the theory that short term fasting can indeed help you to lose weight, and not just muscle but real bodyfat! In Pilon’s book, Eat … Continue reading

Lose the Stress – Lose the Weight

Yes, I know. I’ve told you to lay off the soda, get some sleep and now I’m telling you to get rid of your stress. Waiting for the Numbers to Drop

Sometimes we think we’re doing everything right to lose weight. We eat right and exercise just like the pros tell us to but nothing seems to happen. I’ve been there. I know how frustrating it can be. You feel as though you are starving yourself and know that the workouts you are doing should be making your butt melt off but every morning you end up staring at the very same numbers on the scale. Nothing is happening and you’re about to dive into some ice cream to get over your feeling of inadequacy. Well, don’t touch that spoon! Here … Continue reading

Diet Soda or Regular? They’ll both make you fat!

The Journal of the American Heart Association recently published a report done by some Harvard researchers that has determined that drinking more than one soft drink daily, whether it is sugar free or not, may be associated with an increase in the risk factors for heart disease. Well, what does this have to do with weight gain, you ask? Those risk factors for heart disease have everything to do with weight gain! According to the senior author of the study, Ramachandran Vasan, M.D.: “We were struck by the fact that it didn’t matter whether it was a diet or regular … Continue reading

Are You an Overweight Mom? Get Some Sleep!

Do you crave starchy foods all day? Are you hungry all the time? Is your diet failing because you just can’t stop eating? It could be that you simply aren’t getting enough sleep. According to Dr. Joseph Ojile of the Clayton Sleep Institute, there is a direct connection between poor sleep and obesity. In fact, the National Sleep Foundation has found poor sleep habits to be such a part of obesity that they want obesity therapists to consider this issue in the fight against obesity with as much importance as diet and exercise. The proof came in 2004 when a … Continue reading
