The Atkins Diet – I’m Doing It Wrong!

When I started doing the Atkins diet, I jumped in with both feet. My interest in losing weight, as quickly as it was safe to do it, was a big focus. I never actually read the Atkins book. Since then, I have skimmed over some of it. It turns out that I am not doing this diet exactly right. Once I commit to a particular goal, I give it everything I’ve got. While I sometimes do a little bit of research before I make the decision to embark on a potentially life changing journey, this is not often the case. … Continue reading

What You Can Find in the email From Atkins

The Atkins website has tons of helpful information, and useful tools, that are easily accessible. If you want to keep track of your carbs and weight loss through their website, you have to sign up. When you do that, you can choose to let Atkins send you some email. Ever wonder what those emails are like? In an earlier blog, I talked about the Atkins survey. This survey was something I found out about because there was a link to it in one of the emails that Atkins sent to me. To be honest, I didn’t immediately rush over to … Continue reading

Take the Atkins Survey!

Shortly after deciding that I wanted to start the Atkins diet, I located their website. If you sign up, you can access many helpful online tools. I elected to allow the Atkins website to send me email. Thirty days later, I was asked to take the Atkins survey. Normally, I do everything I can to prevent a website from sending me a bunch of emails. Like many of you, I tend to consider those emails to be “spam”. My experience is that the emails that companies send to people who sign up to their websites are frequently filled with advertisements … Continue reading

Wisdom From Week Four of the Atkins Diet

I used the fourth week of the Atkins diet as a way to transition between Phase One, Induction, and Phase Two, OWL. I had started changing up the way I had been eating for the past three weeks just a little bit. This, of course, provided a challenge. Originally, my plan was to stay in the Induction Phase until I lost about half of the weight that I intended to lose. After having an unexpected allergic reaction to lettuce in the third week of the Atkins diet, I decided it would be a good idea to move on to the … Continue reading

The Things I Am Missing Since Starting Atkins

I started the Atkins diet shortly after Summer began. I have had to modify this diet around my food allergies, but, for the most part, I have managed to stick with it. Right now, I am at the point where I truly miss eating certain foods. I have also grown tired of many of the foods that are acceptable to eat while on the Atkins diet. I am tired of the Atkins food. I haven’t touched the vanilla shakes since I first tried them. The texture was incredibly clumpy, and no matter what I did, I couldn’t get it to … Continue reading

You Can Stay on the Atkins Diet at IHOP

It might seem counterintuitive to eat at a restaurant that is known for its delicious pancakes while you are doing the Atkins diet. Pancakes are filled with tons of carbs! Oddly enough, there are some things you can eat if you happen to find yourself at the IHOP while you are trying to stay on the Atkins diet. I’m not entirely certain how this got started, but my husband and I have been making frequent trips to our local IHOP lately. I know that we had some coupons for IHOP, so that could explain a few visits. There was a … Continue reading

I Have Food Allergies – Should I Stay on Atkins?

After experiencing a rather severe, and completely unexpected, allergic reaction to lettuce, I was starting to question the Atkins diet. There were many things I liked about this diet, that made me want to continue it. However, I was beginning to wonder if I was actually healthy enough to do this, or any other, diet. There are few things that freak me out as much as an unanticipated allergic reaction to a food that I thought was “safe”. There is something uniquely terrifying about noticing your lips swell, your tongue begin to grow numb, and your throat start to close … Continue reading

Staying On Atkins at the Renaissance Faire

Staying on the Atkins diet is much easier when you are eating at home. It can be a bit of a challenge if you are attending a Summer festival. My family likes to visit the local Renaissance Faire when it comes to town. What on earth would I be able to eat there, without cheating on my diet? One of the events I look forward to every Summer is a visit to the Renaissance Faire. The one closest to where I live now, in California, appears briefly, for just one particular weekend. In Wisconsin, there is the Bristol Renaissance Faire, … Continue reading

When Lettuce Attacks!

The Atkins diet is a low carb diet. Instead of bread, people are encouraged to use lettuce. You basically use it as a wrap, and place meat, cheese, and pickles inside it. It works pretty well, especially if you are using the greener, leafier, sort of lettuce. My experience with the Atkins diet this week revealed that I am allergic to (some types of) lettuce. What do I do now? I am a highly allergic person. I first started discovering that I had food allergies and intolerances when I was a teenager. That was the first time I had allergy … Continue reading

Staying On Atkins At the Buffet

The Atkins diet allows for a fairly wide variety of food choices. There are limitations, however, especially when you are still in Phase 1 of the diet. I found it was much easier to eat at home, then to try to stay on Atkins while dining out. Going to a buffet can be challenging, but it is manageable. I was on the fourth week of the Atkins diet when my husband and I decided to eat at a buffet. This was something we did on occasion before I started the Atkins diet. I believe it was me who suggested it. … Continue reading
