Advantages of Food Allergies While Doing Atkins

I am a person who has more food allergies and food intolerances than I’d care to list out for you. Trust me, it would be a very long list. I learned that doing the Atkins diet meant I needed to work it around my allergies. To my surprise, there are some advantages to doing Atkins as an allergic person. One of the very first things I did when I decided to start the Atkins diet was to alter the meal plan I found on the Atkins website. I was allergic to many of the food ingredients that are considered to … Continue reading

Wisdom From Week Three of the Atkins Diet

I have to admit, I didn’t feel like I did as well on week three of the Atkins diet as I did on the previous two weeks. Factors beyond my control made it really difficult for me to stay on the diet. It has been said that people learn best from their mistakes. After getting through week three, I have some wisdom to share. It wasn’t as easy for me to stay on this diet when my husband and I went out to eat. I work from home, and that means I am lucky enough to tailor my day, and … Continue reading

Why I Cheated On My Diet

Nobody is perfect. I managed to get through the first two weeks of the Atkins diet without (really) cheating on it. Then, on the first day of week three, I totally went over the amount of carbs I was supposed to stay under. Were my reasons for doing so good ones? Or, did I get weak and fail? When I first started the Atkins diet, I was very excited to see what this experience would be like. I had a goal weight I wanted to hit, and a very strong motivation to lose it. My sister was getting married, and … Continue reading

Should I Stay, Or Should I Go?

The first two weeks of the Atkins diet are called Phase One, or Induction. You must do a full two weeks in this Phase. After the two weeks are over, you get a choice. Do you want to stay in the Induction phase, or do you want to go on to Phase Two? I would need to make a decision. After spending two weeks in the Induction phase, I was fairly confident that I had a good understanding of what it was, and how to do it. I’d lost five pounds in the first two weeks of the Atkins diet, … Continue reading

Wisdom from Week Two of the Atkins Diet

In the second week of the Atkins diet, I learned a great many things. No matter how prepared and informed you might be before beginning this diet, you will still end up learning something new about how to make Atkins work for you. The wisdom I have gained this week might be helpful for people who have just stated trying to navigate their way through this diet. If you are using the Atkins website to keep track of your carbs and weight, you have the option of entering your weight each and every day. Personally, I prefer to check my … Continue reading

The Food Cravings Have Found Me

The first week of the Atkins diet was very easy for me to do. The second week, however, has been a little bit more of a struggle. In addition to having times when I felt crabby for no good reason, I was starting to experience food cravings. If I was going to stick with this diet, I needed to find ways to fight those cravings. One of my friends, who is also doing the Atkins diet, had a great suggestion. Make some variations to the food you can eat while on this diet, and this will prevent you from getting … Continue reading

Acupuncture and the Atkins Diet

One of the reasons that I chose the Atkins diet was because I wanted to lose weight. The other reason was to help me figure out if I really did have an allergy to gluten. My acupuncturist was able to help me confirm that I do, unfortunately, have a gluten allergy. I started going for acupuncture treatments earlier this year, months before starting the Atkins diet. My main objective with acupuncture was to see if it could help me with my many allergies. I remember that I had a particularly rough week, allergically speaking, and was searching for absolutely anything … Continue reading

Is the Atkins Diet Making Me Crabby?

The first week that I was on the Atkins diet, I felt great! I was enjoying the changes to my eating habits, and truly liked the taste of some of the food suggestions. By the second week, however, things changed dramatically. I’m found myself feeling really crabby! Is this because of Atkins, or due to something else? When I started the Atkins diet, I expected to experience changes in my body. I was fortunate that I haven’t felt any caffeine withdrawal symptoms, and have rarely felt weak. I lost two pounds the first week, and my body feels “better” in … Continue reading

Navigating the Farmers’ Market on Atkins

Never before in my life have I eaten so many fresh vegetables than when I first started the Atkins diet. In order to make this fit into my budget, I knew that it would be helpful if I could find an inexpensive source for these healthy foods. The local Farmers’ Market was the perfect place for veggies. Unfortunately, it was also filled with foods that I wasn’t supposed to be eating. Why is it that fresh fruits and vegetables cost so much more than junk food does? Fresh foods expire quickly, and never, ever, come with a coupon to use … Continue reading

What is the Atkins Brand Food Like?

Being on the Atkins diet means that you aren’t going to be able to have many of the foods that you have become accustomed to eating. They do sell snack food that is low in carbs and filled with vitamins. You can have those without cheating on your diet. What do they taste like? I decided to find out. One of the things I liked about the Atkins diet is that is emphasizes using real, fresh, whole, food. You cannot go to the grocery store and buy frozen Atkins dinners, because they do not exist. The only prepacked food that … Continue reading
