Christian Perspective: Is Yoga a Conflict?

Yoga is a controversial issue among Christians. Some say it is simply a form of exercise while others say it is a physical representation of worship to another god. As an exercise separated from the roots of its spiritual beginnings there should be nothing wrong with the poses. However, many say the separation of spirituality and exercise is not possible based on what yoga means. Since yoga is thought of as just another aerobics class many have laughed at the idea that yoga could somehow conflict with their spiritual beliefs. It would be like saying a treadmill conflicts with your … Continue reading

Exercises for Unhappy Knees

Quite some time ago I was in a car accident where my right knee slammed into the dash. This caused me some issues that still continue to this day. In the beginning walking was a struggle and kneeling was not going to happen if I ever expected to get up again. As time went on and I spent hours a day resting and icing my knee things improved. However, due to this type of frontal knee injury the tendon, PCL, never quite heals. So, I still experience stiffness, strange weak feeling at times and pain if my knee is in … Continue reading

Review: Love My Strutz

One thing I did not expect when I began writing for the Weight Loss section was the amount of requests I would receive to review items relating to weight loss and exercise. I am grateful for the requests yet I try to be discerning on what I review for my readers. My goal is not to turn this section into reviews and PR work but a resource that one can count on for quality reviews, advice, tips and recipes. One such product that came to my inbox that I discerned as worth reviewing is Sole Angel by Love My Strutz. … Continue reading

Knee Injury Update

Quite some time ago I told of how I injured my knee. To recap, I was in a minor car accident where my knee hit the dashboard with a decent amount of force. Due to this I had great difficulty walking much less keeping up on any type of physical exercise routine. The stairs proved to be quite painful. I had to spend hours a day with my leg propped and iced. I was told it would take at least 8 weeks to heal. I honestly could not imagine my knee every returning to normal. That is the small and … Continue reading

Weight Loss and an Injured Knee

Recently I was in a minor car accident. The only injury I sustained happened when my knee hit the dashboard upon impact. I had hoped this injury would be healed quickly. However, the knee is a complex part of the body and one we use quite often. Being told that I had to stay put with my knee elevated sounded like a mini vacation and an excuse to be sedentary for a short while. That shore while has turned into three weeks and counting. Some knee injuries heal in 4 weeks but it can take up to 12 months for … Continue reading

Working Out But Still Not Losing Weight?

Are you putting in extra time at the gym, but still not seeing the results you would like? I faced several questions recently regarding a study that came out about a possible correlation between exercise and weight gain. Clients begin working out and if they don’t lose weight immediately they get frustrated and give up. Here are a few tips which may help: 1. Don’t reward yourself with food. A client recently said, “I felt so much better eating an extra slice of pizza the other night because you worked us so hard in class.” Don’t get me wrong, I … Continue reading

Walking Into Fall With Both Eyes Open

My favorite time of the year is fast approaching. There is something about fall that is so special to me. I am not sure if it is the crisp, autumn air, the changing colors of the leaves, the start of shorter days when it seems like you can kick back and take it easier with the busyness of summer behind you. One thing is certain though, exercising in the fall is much easier to do outdoors. There is no heat or humidity to slow you down. You do not sweat nearly as much as you did in the summer months. … Continue reading

Modifications in Exercise

Since I have a little bit of a knee problem right now I have had to make some choices on how best to go about my normal exercise routine. I could either: A. Give up exercising altogether. OR B. Modify my routine. Since I am not a big fan of being a couch potato, I chose B. I figured that some exercise is better than no exercise. Since I am not fond of sitting still I am hoping that the less than average exercising that I do will give me some outlet where I can release my pent up energy … Continue reading

Walking Through My Day

I am so thankful for my job. Not only do I appreciate it because of how hard it is to hang on to a job right now, but also that I am doing something that I enjoy. The people at my job that I work with are like extended family. The residents who live there are amazing people. Going to work is like going to visit 72 grandpas and grandmas. It is chaotic most of the time and extremely busy. The day flies by though and before you know it, it is time to go home. Another reason that I … Continue reading
