Exercise and Endorphin Release

Did you ever wonder why you feel so incredibly relieved after you have exercised? Sure, there is the feeling of being tired and a little out of breath, but there is also this feeling that you have had a burden lifted off your shoulders, a feeling of content and euphoria. A natural high. That is because that is exactly what it is. When you exercise endorphins, which are compounds that the pituitary gland and hypothalamus produce, are released in moments of exercise and excitable moments. They are even released during moments of injury and pain. They are the body’s natural … Continue reading

If you are looking for that one super fantastic item that works like it is supposed to, look no further. The Omron Premium Pedometer does an awesome job at tracking your … Continue reading

Shaking Your Stuff

A large population of people are out of shape. Many of them are trying to get into shape. For those who are already in shape and maintaining, wonderful. You look great running down the street. You are in your sports bra and nothing is moving from either end of the car. Some people are not cars, but rather buses. This is not to be insulting, but based on fact if we were to compare a thin person to a heavy person using vehicles as our comparing subject. Everyone is knowledgeable, at least most people, regarding the need for a sports … Continue reading

Wog for Your Life

I started jogging now and again about 6 months ago. I first used the DVD, “Walk Away the Pounds, Walk and Jog” by Leslie Sansone. I then would mix it up a bit using a mini trampoline, which is a whole lot easier to jog on. Sometimes I would just turn on the radio and jog away. Sometimes I even jogged on the treadmill, but I did not like all of the noise that I made while I was doing it. I even ran around my background with my niece. We did it at night so the neighbors would not … Continue reading

Exercising the Brain

What do you think about when you are exercising? You can make exercising zip right on by when you use your brain. I love to exercise, but I have to admit that every once in a while it does become monotonous. This is one of the reasons that I switch my exercise routines around every once in a while. If I become bored too often I will not want to exercise and exercising does need to be consistent in order for it to be effective. When I exercise I either listen to music or daydream. Listening to music is great. … Continue reading

Hot Weather Exercising Essentials

Hooray! The warm weather is finally here! The warm weather means outdoor fun. No more staying cooped up in the house. The warm weather also makes it more difficult to exercise outdoors. It takes more energy in the summer to exercise outdoors and we tire more easily. Here are some simple steps to take to keep cool while exercising outdoors in the heat. 1. First of all, do not try to look glamorous. This is the last thing that you need to worry about right now. Wear the lightest, loosest, most breathable fabric that you can wear. Try to wear … Continue reading

More on Plateaus

“I started a new diet. More like a lifestyle change because I think I can stick with it. I was doing great and losing lots of weight but now I’ve stopped losing and I can’t seem to get started again. What’s happening?” Plateaus happen for many reasons. We fail to continue to challenge our bodies to do more (or more intense) exercise. (Literally spinning our wheels.) Our metabolism adjusts to a lower calorie intake and learns to make due on a decreased caloric intake. (Run more efficiently on less food.) We reach what has been our set-point weight for years … Continue reading

When to Eat Carbohydrates

“Why is it recommended to eat carbs after a workout vs. before? If simple carbs convert to sugars quickly for energy, wouldn’t eating something like oatmeal or a turkey sandwich on whole wheat “before” a workout be better than after?” Great question! This is something that so few who are trying to lose weight understand. Eating Carbohydrates Before a Workout If you are a long distance runner with very little bodyfat then carbohydrates before your workout are a must. The carbohydrates will be used for energy so that your body doesn’t have to break down your already low bodyfat for … Continue reading

How to Handle a Plateau

“Help! I hit a plateau after losing 10 pound in 5 weeks!!! What should I do? By the way, I jog 60 minutes 4 days a week.” Congratulations on your weight loss! 10 pounds in 5 weeks is excellent. It equates to only 2 pounds per week. That sort of weight loss does not come as a shock to the system and is considered sustainable, healthy weight loss. There is no reason you shouldn’t be able to continue to lose 2 pounds per week until you reach your goal weight, providing all the other factors are ideal. Here are some … Continue reading

Quality vs Quantity Exercise

“I’m following a good diet and working out all the time. I’m exercising for an hour every day on a treadmill but I’m not losing weight. What’s up?” I don’t know what your diet consists of, but my guess is that you’re suffering from a case of quantity versus quality. There are so many people out there who believe that more is better when it comes to exercise and that just isn’t the case. What if I told you that you could cut your exercise down to 20 minutes a day, or even 20 minutes every other day, and you’d … Continue reading
