After Christmas Weigh In

Walking toward the scale was like walking the plank.  Good advice went unheard.  Good judgment left at home.  Good intentions were never given a second thought.  The Christmas festivities caused better judgement to take a holiday.  The dessert table was the siren call that caused far too many calories to be consumed.  The scale would reveal the extent of the transgressions.  Wait, shoes must be removed.  Let’s not forget the socks.  Perhaps it would be only to it to subtract a pound for hair.  Teeth.  Teeth have to weigh something and yet do not add to the waistline.  One foot … Continue reading

Using Social Media for Weight Loss

As part of my business and as a blog owner, I am on social media all the time. All. The. Time. It is the place to be to promote your business or to keep in touch with friends and family. It is easy, convenient, and on your timeframe. It may get bad press from those who feel a more intimate form of communication is lost due to the emergence of social media, but I disagree. I think it helps connect families, friends, and network. It gives a person a wider audience and more ways to connect. In my time online, … Continue reading

Making Health Resolutions, Part 2

Yesterday I discussed ways to rethink your New Year’s Resolutions. Resolutions rarely result in success. If you are successful at making resolutions then by all means continue to work your method. Yet, for a vast majority of dieters and those seeking better health resolutions are nothing but broken promises to yourself. Here are few more tips: Resolve to Reward Yourself If you have decided to lose weight then you are embarking on a difficult journey. Weight loss is not easy task. It takes a change of mindset, willpower, and work. Instead of concentrating on the big picture make your goal … Continue reading

Making Health Resolutions

It is that time of year again. The time when resolutions are made in regards to health and well being. Most of these resolutions center on weight loss. Any diet started in 2011 was abandoned by the beginning of the holiday season. It takes will power of steel to last through Thanksgiving, Christmas and New Year’s, without breaking your diet. The season is filled with temptations and we are willingly low on willpower. Instead of our diets waiting until Monday they now are on hold until the New Year. Well, the New Year is here and before it becomes the … Continue reading

Staying Hydrated

Ways to Stay Hydrated: Add flavor to your water: Water can get boring. There are times I seek flavor which causes me to drink something other than water. When you add another drink into the equation you must take in account calories. I find it wasteful to drink my calories. So a way I make drinking water more fun is adding lemon, lime, cucumber, or watermelon, orange or grapefruit to add some fun. You can also find carbonated naturally flavored (no fake sugar or otherwise) water to mix things up a bit. You can also add a sprig of mint … Continue reading

When the end does not justify the means.

I always toy with the idea of running. My husband used to run 60 miles a week. I knew I would never achieve his level of athleticism. I was not an ex-track star in high school. I do not even regret being an ex-track star in high school. I actually have no interest in running at all. I only toy with the idea because I am aware of the immense calories it burns. I could burn almost twice the calories running for the same amount of time I would spend doing aerobics. My husband has tried to encourage me in … Continue reading

How to Form a Diet Group

Yesterday we discussed the importance of having a support system. A support system will hold you accountable, cheer you on, give you a soft place to land, and give you a sense of teamwork. Having a support system will dramatically increase your chances of sustained weight loss. We are social beings so our need for others in our lives is strong. We especially need the love and support of others as we take on a difficult task like weight loss. How do you form a Diet Support Group to help you and others attain fitness goals? Facebook: Starting a Facebook … Continue reading

The Importance of Support During Weight Loss

Gaining weight is easy. It happens fast and with little or no effort at all. If only losing weight was just as easy. Losing weight can be difficult, slow and requires effort. The task is daunting with many giving up before they lose their first pound. No wants to feel deprived and no one has time to keep on a diet with everything else going on in their lives. People are also notoriously poor at holding themselves accountable to tasks they do not enjoy or have a hard time fitting into their lives. The solution is having someone else hold … Continue reading

How do you reward yourself?

So many times when we are dieting we feel as if we are denying ourselves. This feeling of denial can lead one to think “Oh I deserve to eat that entire cheesecake” or “Give me a Biggie Fry, I deserve it after eating nothing but watercress for a week.” Then we get mad at ourselves for suffering through watercress for a week only to ruin it by a biggie fry and a chocolate shake. I added a chocolate shake when you weren’t looking. You see, overeating is never a reward. A sense of entitlement with food will lead to serious … Continue reading

Keeping a Diary of Your Journey

I have talked about keeping a food journal in the past. I believe it is a useful and effective tool to not only keep you on track but help you determine your pitfalls. In the beginning you should write down everything you eat along with the nutritional information. Once you get the hang of it and know more about how to eat you may want to fill it out the night before. I found this to keep me on track and I was less likely to cheat or forget to add something in my journal. Going beyond a simple food … Continue reading
