End of the Month Check In

This “End of the Month Check In” not only falls on the end of the month but the cusp of a New Year. So how was it this month? Did you eat a family or gingerbread men or possibly their whole house? Did you succeed in keeping portions in control so your new year will not start off with new pounds? Are you committed to another year of taking care of your health and in return losing a few pounds? December is a difficult time to think about weight loss. So if you lost weight, I am impressed! If you … Continue reading

Food Journals

One of the best things you can do to help reach your weight loss goals is to keep a food journal. A food journal will keep you focused on your diet and hold you accountable to your goals. It will also shed light on the reality of what you eat during the day and late at night. You may not realize how often you eat a bag of chips at midnight or how many cans of soda you drink on a daily basis. Keeping a well detailed food journal can also reveal under what circumstances you eat so you know … Continue reading

Are We All The Same Size?

I went shopping the other day for pants. I finally found the kind that I wanted on the rack and took a couple of different sizes into the dressing room. The size 10 was too big, but the size 8 was almost perfect. They were a tad short. I could live with it, but I wanted them to be just a little bit longer for when I wear heels with them. Back to the rack I went. Oh good…they had Tall sizes. They had tall sizes in 10, 12, 14, 16, 18 and 20, that is. They had them in … Continue reading

Weighing Thy Self

The experts say that once a week or even once a month is the best way to do it. I say, “Whatever works for you.” I do it once, twice, even three times a day. A mistake? Possibly. However, in my experience I have come to discover that if I do not weigh myself this often I think that I am off the hook and tend to forget about my goals. It is my way of staying on top of things. There is even a club for the obsessive weighers like myself. At http://weight-loss.fitness.com/club/7618-weigh-yourself-everyday-club-272.html you will have company if this … Continue reading

Weight Loss: Setting Realistic Goals

Losing weight is not an easy task for most. A common mistake that people make when they attempt to lose weight is setting their goals too high instead of keeping within realistic limits. If you consider that it takes a 3500-calorie deficit in order to lose just one pound each week you will understand that expecting to lose more than a couple of pounds per week is not advisable. If you do so you will be setting yourself up for possible disappointment. In doing this you will likely lose interest in your endeavors and be subject to discouragement and defeat. … Continue reading

Weight Loss: How Important Are The Numbers To You?

Going back about 20 years ago I read somewhere that your ideal body weight was measured as starting at 5 feet and 100 pounds for woman. As each inch was added, it was calculated as an additional 5 pounds. For example, a woman that was 5 feet 2 inches tall should weigh 110 pounds and a woman that was 5 feet 5 inches should weigh 125 pounds. This way of measuring did not take in consideration the frame of the body. I followed this rule of thumb and I looked almost skeletal, which I thoroughly enjoyed. I was thin and … Continue reading

Weight Loss: What Is Your BMI?

I had not heard of BMI or body mass index until about 10 or so years ago. Before that I just went by the height/weight charts that the doctor used. Now, not only do we have to worry about our numbers in weight, clothing size numbers, and the measuring tape reality, we also have to contend with falling into a healthy BMI range. BMI, or body mass index, is the measurement that gauges the relation of your height to your weight. This measurement will determine your “fatness” factor and let you know if you are in a healthy range. This … Continue reading
