Causing a Buzz Through Images on Social Media

The Internet is a feast for the eyes. When people are online they want their eyes to be entertained and their minds to be broadened. Time online is fleeting so a visual hook is needed to grab and keep attention on your product or ebook. One method of keeping yourself in the public eye is through social media. Twitter is popular because it is fast moving and short. It does not depend on visual stimulation but images are becoming a part of this form of communication. The power of images is easily seen on Pinterest and Instagram. Facebook is also conducive to images but allows you the ability to “talk it up” a bit more. Any way you slice it, images and graphics are gaining all the attention lately.

After noticing how much attention images were getting on my blog’s Facebook page and seeing this result with other page owners, I decided to conduct a little experiment. I am an administrator of the Facebook page for an ebook that I contributed to. Things were dying down and we needed something to spark interest back into our ebook. I decided to make images with quotes from our ebook. Once the graphic was designed I posted it on our Facebook page. Immediately attention was turned our way. Within the first twenty minutes it was shared 22 times and garnered 26 likes. In addition, we gained two new followers. By the end of the day we gained over ten new followers and it was shared almost 200 times. I would say that was a success. I also shared it on my personal blog’s Facebook page and gained a significant amount of likes and shares. Riding on that momentum, I created a few more and each did very well and our reach that was at 9,000 shot up to over 26,000. Yes, book sales did go up as well.

Moral of the story, use images to create interest, keep interest or revive interest.
