Next week, it will be 10 years since I was married in the temple to my amazing husband. I can’t believe it has been that long. Yet, in the eternal scheme of things, it is just a moment.
In preparation for our anniversary, we were trying to decide what to do. We had a hard time figuring out something special that we could do with three small children, and limited time. We needed someone to watch the kids, and we wanted something fun to do. We decided we are going to go to a local reservoir and rent wave-runners. I’m excited about that. But, my husband told me that I could plan the first half of the day if I wanted to. I was trying to think of a fun activity, and decided that what I would love to do more than anything is go to the temple with my husband.
Do you do this for your anniversaries too? This is not the first time we have spent our anniversary at the temple. In fact, it has become kind of a fun tradition of ours. It may not sound like the most adventurous, but because of our schedules, and our small kids, going to the temple is a treat. And, what better way to reflect on your temple marriage than to go to the temple?
I have found that not only does it give me time to think about the covenants I made with my Heavenly Father, but it gives me time to think about the promises I made to my spouse. It puts things into perspective. The past few years have been very trying for us. We have added 3 children to our home in 6 years. They are a precious gift, and so wonderful, but at times, it is difficult to juggle the demands of all of these little ones. It feels overwhelming, and our time with each other is limited as well. Going to the temple helps me remember that when these 3 children that I do everything for right now grow older, our house will be quiet again, and it will be just the two of us. So, keeping our relationship strong is so very important. What better way to do that than in the house of the Lord?
