Celebrating Your Marriage in Your Decor

Autumn's room When we decorate our homes, we usually hang pictures of things we love. We buy figurines that remind us of sentimental moments. We choose colors that uplift or relax us. We surround ourselves with things that make us happy.

I love walking into a home and seeing wedding pictures on the wall. I always head over and examine the dress, the flowers, the cake … I’m a wedding picture junkie. I always have been. Most of all, I love seeing how the couple continues to celebrate their union every day by bringing the memories of that moment into focus consistently.

You can decorate with mementos from your wedding in a variety of ways. You can frame your marriage license. You can place your silk or dried bouquet in a shadow box and hang it on the wall. My mom framed a special picture taken on my wedding day of me with my grandmother, and that has become a cherished memory, along with the wedding announcement I framed.

It’s also not necessary to hang these items in the living room—you can turn your bedroom into a romantic haven, a reminder for both you and your sweetie of the love that brought you together in the first place. Autumn Weber, a good friend of mine, made her bedroom truly beautiful by basing her bedroom decor off her wedding photos. She used black frames, purchased a dark red and black bedspread, and incorporated a special lily print she found and loved. As you can see from this one sample picture, the result is classy, elegant, and romantic with a capital R.

Of course, all of this is completely optional. Perhaps your wedding photographer did a terrible job and you don’t have pictures you’d enjoy hanging on your walls. Maybe the colors you chose for your wedding don’t coordinate with the colors you chose for your home. But then again, maybe this could help bring a little bit of loving nostalgia into your home and give it that special touch you’ve been hoping to create.
