Celebrities In The News

It’s been a busy week for celebrity fodder. The following are a few tidbits that are making headlines:

Jamie Lee Curtis

The 46-year-old actress says she has “closed the book” on her acting career. Curtis told “Access Hollywood” that she doesn’t consider herself an actor anymore. Curtis went on to say, “I’m just focused on my family and just can’t imagine anything that’s going to pull me away from them right now.”

Mel Gibson

The Academy Award-winning actor-director, who made international headlines this summer following a drunken-driving arrest and subsequent anti-Semitic tirade, is finally breaking his silence. The 50-year-old is set to appear on “Good Morning America” next week to speak to Diane Sawyer. It will mark Gibson’s first media interview since his arrest. Could this chat fest be prompted by the fact that Gibson’s new film “Apocalypto” will be released in December?

Keisha Castle-Hughes

Remember the little girl from the 2002 movie “Whale Rider?” She sure grew up fast. Castle-Hughes (who was nominated for a best-actress Oscar for her role in the film) is now 16-years-old and is preparing for her latest role: a new mom. Reps for the teen actress confirm Castle-Hughes is expecting a baby in the spring. The baby’s father is Castle-Hughes’ boyfriend of three years.

Natalie Portman

I have always thought that Natalie Portman was one of the most beautiful actresses in Hollywood, but now she’s improving on perfection… as Audrey Hepburn. The 25-year-old Portman is wearing the iconic black column dress worn by Hepburn in 1961’s “Breakfast at Tiffany’s,” on the cover of the upcoming issue of Harper’s Bazaar. On a number of occasions I have heard Portman referred to as “the modern-day Hepburn,” so I’m sure it was one of the reasons she was chosen to model the dress. However, if you think you would look better in the dress, you’ll soon have the chance to prove it. The famous black dress, one of three versions made for the 1961 movie, will be sold to the highest bidder on December 5th at Christie’s auction house in London. It’s expected to fetch as much as $130,000. Proceeds from the dress will go to the City of Joy Aid charity, which provides aid to India’s poor.
