Last year my young daughter was totally into My Little Pony. She collected a ton of the 4-inch-tall plastic toys; watched the animated movies; and had grandma send her the My Little Pony Treasury so she could read about the ponies’ adventures and learn who was who in Ponyland.
That lasted for about 6 months… then it was so long ponies, hello Strawberry Shortcake.
Which means I’m off the hook for this next celebrity charity auction. As tempting as it may be, I won’t be bidding on the 18-inch versions of My Little Pony being hand decorated by some of Hollywood’s biggest names.
Pony creator Hasbro has teamed up with the Give Kids The World charity as part of a celebration for the toy’s 25th anniversary. As part of the anniversary festivities the toy maker distributed blank ponies to stars such as country singer LeAnn Rimes, 1980s teen idol Deborah Gibson, illustrator Catalina Estrada from Spain, New York graffiti artist-turned-designer Claw Money and Japanese manga artist Junko Mizuno.
The celebrities and stars have until the end of the summer to design their own pastel-colored ponies before they’re unveiled and auctioned off at a gallery event in Manhattan in September.
Now that’s the kind of auction item Anna Nicole Smith’s baby daddy, Larry Birkhead should be attending to purchase keepsakes for his daughter Dannielynn.
But, instead of gifting the 1-year-old with plastic ponies Birkhead dropped nearly $3,000 on lingerie her late pinup girl mom once wore for a Playboy shoot.
Birkhead claims he needed to buy the panties and bras to make sure Dannielynn “has something to remember her mother by.”
Yesterday Birkhead told reporters,” I have a lot of history I have to put together that she doesn’t really know about, Playboy was such a big part of Anna’s career.”
Among the lacy (and racy) items Birkhead bought at the Las Vegas auction were a pink bustier for $1,800, a white negligee for $1,000, and a slew of matching bra and panty sets.
